i love these guys - how cool to be able to create hard, dark noise, and then this album, with acoustic-based tunes. shufflin' my feet.

Santa Barbara? I saw them when they opened here two years ago for Stone Temple Pilots, but I don't think they are from here.

I think it must be an homage or nod to that tune.  It's not as if they're trying to deceive anyone - most people who listen to popular music probably know that song..

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club   The name was taken from the 1953 Marlon Brando movie "The Wild One. " His motorcycle gang was called The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. That's all I know about it, except that I know I really love this band!

I don't care how long they've been around, 2001 is the first I heard of them (their debut album). I don't consider that a long time, but maybe "promising" wasn't the right word choice. ...Cheers

Sobient - "Take Them On..." is from 2003, I believe.
And yes, it's much better than their latest album, "Howl", in my opinion.
