Obviously no dirty old men commenting below, so I'll represent.

This is one of my faves, shows the expertise of Lyle's Large Band, and illustrates Mr. Lovett's sense of humor.  How many times I've chastised myself as being shallow and lecherous when the object of my leer turns around.  Inevitably, I mutter to myself, "Well, you ugly, too."

Mr. Lovett is high on the list of Folks Invited to Uncle Hud's Cocktail Party Celebrating His Eventual Lottery Winnings.

That line was darn near the only thing saving this from being abysmal to me. It didn't help that it followed a great Thelonius Monk piece. :)

Musical tastes being what they are, all I can say about Lyle Lovett is that he is a clever writer, but his music has always grated for me. I like plenty of singers whose voices are erratic or even considered unpleasant to others, but I just find this hard to listen to.

Then you're due big thanks!  This is a killer album, and this tune always makes me smile.

Did you by chance upload LA County?  "When you're kneeling at the altar with a good friend by your side?"

Actually it's a woman—his female back-up singer has a very deep, bluesy voice.

Sounds like she is  "coyote ugly". You wake up beside her the morning after, and you'd chew your arm off to get out without waking her.

Never really like Lyle and I don't know why, but this is pretty much normal Lovett and doesn't send me screaming from the room.  6
