Agreed with the guys asking for more than just Bob. I can listen to Bob 100,000 times (and I may possibly have over the last 25 years) but there are some reggae artists that are almost as brilliant.

Peter Tosh (who played with Bob)

Lucky Dube (not as well known but the most soulful reggae ever....and sadly recently murdered  in S. Africa)

Those are the only two with songs that I know of worthy of RP play. Anyone know of others?

I saw a great documentary on BBC last night on the rocksteady era of Jamaican music in the mid-to-late 1960s

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00ym9n4

It was a wonderful insight into the history of reggae just prior to Bob becoming popular worldwide and filled in a few gaps in my knowledge of the genre I love so much.

A question I've wondered for quite some time now...thanks amb599.

Thanks, Bill. This is the perfect excuse to head off to bed ... Marley. Bleh. I know, you worshippers; I'll be careful not to hit my ass on the door.

If he was singing about, say, Catholicism, he'd have been castigated. But since it is an obscure, poorly understood religion, it is accepted? Just saying.

U2 sings about Catholicism...  just look up what The Joshua Tree means... U2 is good, and so was Bob Marley...

this song is good for the ears...

I think because he didn't get too dogmatic about it is why it went over OK.
