Day to day
Where do you want to be?
'Cos now you're trying to pick a fight
With everyone you need
You seem like a soldier
Who's lost his composure
You're wounded and play a waiting game
In no-man's land no-one's to blame
See the world
Find an old fashioned girl
And when all's been said and done
It's the things that are given, not won
Are the things that you want
Empty handed, surrounded by a senseless scene
With nothing of significance
Besides a shadow of a dream
You sound like an old joke
You're worn-out, a bit broke
An' askin me time and time again
When the answer's still the same
See the world
Find an old fashioned girl
And when all's been said and done
It's the things that are given, not won
Are the things that you want
You've got a chance to put things right
So how's it going to be?
Lay down your arms now
And put us beyond doubt
So reach out it's not too far away
Don't mess around now, don't delay

But I'm hearing their older stuff is better? I am a huge Gomez fan and I have all of their CDs. Their all good, but I highly recommend Liquid Skin which I consider one of the 25 best CDs. It was by far their most successful. Gomez has not really gotten much praise from the critics though, so I have always been surprised at how much they are played here. It is one of the major considerations I stick with this station. I mean, I love them, but not many other people seem to love them like Bill and I do. |

I was looking forward to hearing a cover of that song. |

| Blastcat900 | Posted: Mar 29, 2012 - 08:43 I had a fantastic love affair almost completely based on Gomez. I saw the world with an old fashioned girl. What road trips! Too bad the band went bleh in the last while. But, these early albums still bring a tear to my eyes. I used to think of them as the new Beatles. Every song had a wonderful hook, production, singing, musicianship... and the wonderful electronics and electric banjo. Was my all time favorite band until she broke up with me and my little heart. Ah... the Gomez years ! And now, Gomez records are shit, and it's fitting. Too bad. Love this song, love the band they used to be. Time goes on.... |

| WonderLizard (2,755.46 mi. due east of Paradise) | Posted: Feb 26, 2012 - 16:01 I don't know if this is their "best" album, but I find myself playing it a whole lot. |
| Cynaera (In a hammock under my own vine and fig tree.) | Posted: Oct 22, 2011 - 21:10 I love this song on a lot of levels. It's a good "kid" song. It's also a good "hope" song, so I don't even care about the technical aspects of it, or the weird connections.... It's just a good song. Here are the cut-and-pasted lyrics, which may or may not be accurate. Day to day You seem like a soldier See the world Empty handed, surrounded by a senseless scene See the world You've got a chance to put things right See the world... |

| Bizzarefall (Space Coast) | Posted: Sep 21, 2011 - 05:15 I seem to be full of 7's today. This is a solid 7 almost an 8 |
| Seahunt (Parent's Basement) | Posted: Jul 20, 2011 - 12:20 I won tix to see them in a private artist showcase this Monday and they cancelled the rest of their tour for voice problems. Bummer |
| rulebritannia (NYC - Back in the USA!) | Posted: May 18, 2011 - 05:22 This song reminds me why I liked Gomez! |
| sirdroseph (Yes) | Posted: May 18, 2011 - 05:22 The ultimate hit and miss band! This one is a home run, not a grand slam, but a home run. 8 |

| RadioDoc (Chicagoland) | Posted: Feb 15, 2009 - 11:32 Nice recovery from the Death Crabs which preceded it. 8 |

| Tana (Lancaster, PA) | Posted: Jan 07, 2009 - 07:52 I suspect this song is not as "chirpy" as it might sound at first. I could take it as a satire on towing the line, joining the Army, and going off to war. |

| js5280 (Denver, CO) | Posted: Apr 29, 2008 - 22:01 Meh. Typical uninspiring Adult Alternative sugar bomb. I like some of their other stuff, just not this one. |
| mattmudpuppy | Posted: Mar 29, 2008 - 10:05 This song always leaves me Wondering Where the Lions Are. Hope he gave a nod to Bruce Cockburn on this album. |

I get this lucky about once a decade. Did the same for our Norwegian guest last month here in L.A.; Gomez got a lukewarm response from the gazillion girls there to see The Fray. But they rocked.(and "they're from England!") |

| musikalia (Somewhere (over the rainbow)) | Posted: May 20, 2007 - 03:55 Another example of a band that's alright, but is simply ruined by the way the singer's voice grates on my nerves. |
| baboo (behind the white pine tree) | Posted: May 11, 2007 - 15:05 I simply cannot get enough of this album / this band. |
| Bootsli (Maine) | Posted: Mar 18, 2007 - 09:20 I thought, oh good, an old Bruce Cockburn song, 'Wondering where the lions are' to be precise. Longest 'sample' of a folk guitar riff that I've heard. |

| peyotecoyote (London, Ontario) | Posted: Jan 31, 2007 - 06:50 I get this music...it's fresh, I feel happy when I sing the words...great song, great CD...very simple really, very appealing. |
| ThePoose | Posted: Jan 31, 2007 - 06:50 Says Gomez, ''Morticia--that's French!!!'' (kiss, kiss, kiss) C'est sur que la langue de Moliere est tres romantique. Je l'aime beaucoup, et je la parle chaque fois que possible! (bec, bec, bec) |
| meydele (By the sea) | Posted: Jan 31, 2007 - 06:49 This singer (don't know his name) has such a distinctive voice. . . I like it, but it does kind of sound like he's got a mouth full of spit he's trying not to lose. Heh! |
