This reminds me a little of Nebraska in that it completely transcends its production value.  Both sound like they could have been recorded by one or two dudes in their basements, but that is not what you end up focusing on.  The music completely removes itself from the "sound" of the recording, if that makes sense.

This isn't nearly as good as Nebraska, but I think it deserves a good listen.

pretty sure this is a "DIY" recording, done at sam beam's home.  as i understand his quiet style of singing was a result of his practicing music after his little daughters were in bed......

Right on. This one got me as I swear I've heard my son's say some of those exact phrases to their mother. Heartbreaking - not boring at all.

I just think they are very boring. I rated this a 5 because I don't hate it, but definately don't like it that much. It's good at very rare intervals.

Couldn't agree more (about the "limited artistic range and dimension"). I've enjoyed a few of their songs, but I really don't get much else out of them. As a result, I listen to them very rarely.

Oddly, it's another rainy, dreary day here in Indy. Sooooo, Iron & Wine songs cause rain and general malaise? Well, not the malaise part, I like their songs, but I see an emerging atmospheric conspiracy theory in the works here.

I have only heard I&W on RP... don't know them, don't know anything about them. But.... I have heard nothing from them that that makes me want to hear any more. Very much reminds me of 60's high school bands that were trying to be 'heavy'. Sorry to those of you that like their stuff. I just think that it is a waste of time.

One of my very favorite songs...sad I missed it, but I have it recorded about five ways, so can listen whenever I want.


Agree about the I&W/Calexico comments. Saw them on their tour here in the US last December. Talented musicians all around, great show!

I saw Iron & Wine in London on their tour with Calexico on Sunday. Was an excellent night all round. Both bands work well collaborating on the 'In the Reins' EP.
This track is taken from a great album, I’d recommend it.
