Ideal blues to kick back to on the front porch of an old wooden house on a sweltering summer's evening, with the cicadas in full chorus, cold 'sierra nevadas' flowing and some good company...no not thinking of London, but reminiscing bout small town North Carolina

( ~ smiling ~ ) There are few things that cheer up a lower-Mississippi Delta Louisianian's spirit than some Mississippi John Hurt in the morning. Yours from the Irish Channel of New Orleans.

Love Mississippi John! This is one of his best.
I think this album also has an incredible version of 'Nearer My God to Thee' in which MJH never actually mentions God - just sings: "Nearer my --- to thee" with a wonderful bluesy chord (D7, I think) filling the gap!

Sweet. In every sense of the word. I used to listen to these to learn how to finger pick the guitar. His playing is so clear and crisp, it's not so hard to pick up the notes from the record.
