"Get off the cross, we need the wood".

Tom Waits used that line in a song as well. Not sure of the song but I'm thinking Mule Variations, maybe "Come on up to the House"

So what is it; a) an expression I've never heard of, b) one copped the line from the other or c) they both thought of it independently?

I picked this song because it was the first from the new album at the time, and besides "Ireland", it was one of the few Tori songs that I absolutely hate with a passion. Sure there are some that I dislike, but "Big Wheel" and "Ireland" go way beyond dislike. As far as albums, I personally love "Boys For Pele" the most (for "Blood Roses" alone), and I admire her experimentation with new sounds on SLG, but my only pet peeve with that one is like a lot of fans, I think it lacks passion....especially on "Enjoy the Silence". I'm sure it's got to be the stalest cover ever. Fans knew about her contract issues and using cover songs as a means to weasel out of the contract may have seemed smart, but gone were the Tori lyrics and personal stories.

I first saw/heard Tori in the "Silent All These Years" video and have been a fan ever since. I also do not agree with all the harsh comments about this song. BUT I didn't give this track a 10. It's not a 10, but, in my opinion, it's not crap either. Given Tori's musical influences and tastes, it's not such a big stretch to me. I quite like the rolling beat of this track, even when the 'MILF' part comes in. It's a fun track, IMHO.

My opinion is NOT because I am a Tori fan who "eats up" everything she does. Frankly, fans like that annoy me because they plainly think they need to love every little thing to be a true fan. I have Tori songs I hate, and songs I don't like as much as others. Most of my fellow Tori friends are the same way I am. Many of us rave about many of her songs because they touch us, they move us, and we just plain love them. Not because were being pretentious or blind.

(BTW: "Big Wheel" is the US single, "Bouncing Off Clouds" is the single for everywhere else. Tori knew exactly what she was doing when she released "Big Wheel" for the US. We may not understand it yet, but, in the end, we will.)

I rate it a 7 because I think it's a fun, catchy track. It's 'Quite Likeable' to me, and I may end up liking it more in the future. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it. :oP

Lyrically, "Big Wheel" is fitting for the U.S. Tori's pretty blunt about how she feels about issues concerning the U.S and misogyny on the whole album really. Musically, "Big Wheel" should please a lot of people in the U.S.....and THAT is my problem with it. I've heard one too many country songs on local stations similar in arrangement to "Big Wheel". Overall I'm cool with the whole album, it's just before the album leaked and officially came out, the only thing I was going by was "Big Wheel". I just still feel that Tori's done way better and have more complex songs than this. A little too familiar sounding for my liking.

The album leaked a few days ago and "Big Wheel" is one of the worst songs from the new album. There are several songs that sound better, in my opinion. The album's good, better than Beekeeper which was like a fuckin' flatline. She goes in a Southern Rock/Blues direction for the rock driven songs, but it works for her. "Body and Soul" will kick you hard in the ass.
