Sir, when a man is tired of Bowie, he is tired of life!

GREAT song but overused and overplayed. Also Bowie does HIS song the best in all its variations.

From reading the comments, I gather that nostalgia of some kind is playing a big part in the exceptionally high rating of this song. As a first time hearer, I respectfully disagree. PSD next time around for me.

Was convinced by my 11 year old granddaughter to go see The Perks of Being a Wallflower the other day.  The movie she really wanted to see was sold out.  Anyway, this song was the high point of the movie for me.  Reminded me of my dear, departed friend Charlie who burned his way through S.F., Barcelona and Berlin back in the day.  Charlie turned me on to Bowie.  Blessings to you Charlie.

This got a bit overplayed in the UK this summer as it was adopted as the song of the UK teams in the Olympics and the Paralympics, but I still can't get tired of hearing it.

Scary isn't it? I was just reminded that Joe Walsh's "Life's Been Good" was released 34 years ago. I remember the first time I heard both this song and "Life's Been Good" when they were just released. Both were hugely popular in my neck of the woods, and both unlike anything I'd ever heard.

I think I'm missing something—didn't he do this with Eno? And the sound is intentional?

Really? It's not overtly political, but the song's largely about embracing life in defiance of oppression, with two people kissing by the Berlin Wall...

To each his own I guess.  Beauty of diverse interests.  Bowie is #2 all time on my list - behind the Beatles.  The Police make my top 20 but the Stinger solo act would be way down - maybe around 100.  Matthews - way way below that - maybe 500 - oh well.
