Well maybe not, but there are mitigating factors one must take into account before I would get too critical:

First of all, if I were a female vocalist who could pull this one off, I couldn't resist doing this one on my record.

Secondly, its really more fair to compare this other covers of the tune, most notably with Rhonstadt's version.

Osborne seems to invite this, since she pretty much copped the drum treatment from the LR cover.

Stands up better than I would have thought, though.

Nice rendition, too. Really emphasises how unbelievably good the original is!

Joan performed with the Funk Brothers on their TV special. The Funk Bros were backup for all early Motown songs. Surprisingly, for me at least, Joan sang with more soul than most of the performers. I was impressed. Nice job, Joan.

An excellent cover! Joan just rips this piece up.

Get or rent the vid. It's even more impressive to see and hear her do this tune.

There are a few other killer performances on this album too.

Small story of how RP can hit home.

Bill just commented on-air that this was an appropriate song for the weather in Paradise, California today.

At this very moment everything I own is on a moving truck on its way down from San Francisco to L.A. ... actually sitting on the side of the freeway near Bakersfield ... the driver called to say the truck broke down. They'll be getting it fixed and delivering tomorrow morning but it's so nice to know that my entire vinyl collection is baking away in a truck on the side of I-5.

So knowing about a heat-wave in N. California wasn't the best news I wanted to hear at the moment.

But the song was good.
