I discovered this when someone included it on a mix CD for me. Hearing it never gets old.

Just google the chord progresion that Rob describes. You'll get more info than you wanted.

Songs copying/influenced by Pachelbel's Canon in D major
1.Vitamin C- graduation (friends forever)
2.Aereosmith-Cryin
3.Coven - One tin soldier
4.blues traveler - Hook
5.green day basket case
6.matchbox 20 push
7.better than ezra - good
8.bush -machine head
9.U2 -with or without you
10.Natalie imbruglia - torn
11. Avril Lavigne -Sk8ter boi
12. twisted sister -we're not gonna take it
13.Cyndi Grecco-making our dreams come true (Laverne & Shirley theme song)
14.bob Marley - no woman no cry

Okay, based on the songs listed above, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the reason for the common theme is a Jungian musical archtype and not any kind of intent on the part of the songwriters involved...

My tired brain read that as "Musket-fest," and I thought, wow, they really like their guns in PA. The old-school kind.

Yeah, I need some more coffee.

They play twice a year at SpringFest and Magnolia Festival ("MagFest") at Suwannee River Music Park in Live Oak, FL.  These are great 3 day music festivals with something for everyone - definitely a big party and a LOT of fun!   The Buffalo does the midnight jam and they often play until 2 or 3 in the morning.  Check out http://www.magmusic.com/ for more information.

ok- surely this is a strange question- but does anyone know of a program that allows you to "type" in a musical progression, and can identify what it is for you??  i knew i heard pachelbel's canon in this, but did not know that was what it *was* till i read it here.  this happens to me all the time!  wouldn't a program that could do that be so cool??

I have heard that the same chord progression as Pachelbel's canon is commonly used in pop music.

I first "herd" them in FL about 9 years ago.  They are from NY (I think near Buffalo).  I don't know where the name Donna comes from.  The only female in the group is Tara Nevins - lead singer on most of their songs.  They call their fans "The Herd".  {#Lol}

I love this band, they are local talent here, along with Mary Lorson (Madder Rose), Slim Redmond, Jennie Sterns, the list goes on. . . I enjoy living in this area for its musical talent. I'm from PA originally and not the same kind of musician grows there.

Something is in the water in the southern tier, and even the high schools and churches produce musicians of the highest quality—it’s sometimes incomprehensible; when DONNA makes their Johnson City run I always go, for a rockin’ good time.

Pachelbel's Canon in D?

That's distracting.
