![]() Colin Meloy Sings Live! (2008) [ larger cover art ] |
Here on these cliffs of Dover
So high you can't see over
And while your head is spinning
Hold tight, it's just beginning
You come from parents wanton
A childhood rough and rotten
I come from wealth and beauty
Untouched by work or duty
And oh, my love, my love
And oh, my love, my love
We both go down together
I found you, a tattooed tramp
A dirty daughter from the labor camps
I laid you down on the grass of a clearing
You wept but your soul was willing
And oh, my love, my love
And oh, my love, my love
We both go down together
And my parents will never consent to this love
But I hold your hand
Meet me on my vast veranda
My sweet untouched Miranda
And while the seagulls are crying
We fall but our souls are flying
And oh, my love, my love
And oh, my love, my love
And oh, my love, oh my love
And oh, my love, my love
We both go down together

If only the best rated stuff is being played the result would be limited to a narrow band. How many great songs I never heard before and never had the chance to discover would I miss in that case. Therefore thumbs up for RP and Colin Meloy I really don't like this song at all, but I do have to agree with the sentiment that much of the strength of this station is derived from Bill's refusal to exclusively cater to the "numerical will of the masses." I'll take the "We Both Go Down Together," as well as the occasional "Dengue Fever - Seeing Hands," and all the other things that I legitimately don't enjoy because for every one song I haven't liked, Bill has played about 50 that I do. ![]() |

| superflyLD (Boston, MA) | Posted: Feb 05, 2009 - 10:07 a song like this makes me think I could actually play guitar and sing too... and I have ZERO musical talent. |
| Sloggydog (UK) | Posted: Feb 05, 2009 - 10:06 I really dig this one. Love a good new song. |
| gandalfbmg (3 mi from Paradise (Missouri)) | Posted: Feb 05, 2009 - 10:06 It's not as good as the full band version, but this is such a great song I'm happy to get whatever I can of it... |

| andrewmi (capitoltown) | Posted: Oct 20, 2008 - 19:21 Not my favorite Decemberists song, but I really enjoy his solo stuff. I once road-tripped with four friends to see him perform four hours away and it was fantastic - a very casual, intimate show in which Colin sipped red wine, told stories, and just generally enjoyed himself with the audience. The opener was also excellent - a woman named Laura Gibson, with quiet, pleasant songs. I ended up buying her album...wonder if anyone's uploaded it? |

| equinoxus (Sweden) | Posted: Sep 19, 2008 - 03:57 Really good song. Like Meloys work. Check out "The Decemberists" too where Colin Meloy is lead singer. |

| Excelsior | Posted: Sep 12, 2008 - 05:04 Dear God, what have we done to deserve having this song inflicted upon us SO OFTEN??? This song gets a solid 1. |

I'm not one to post negative comments about the music, but the combination of his terrible, vibrato-heavy voice and the heavy airplay leads me to make an exception. Ma-hiiiiiii rating is a 2. |

| ClaireWild (Ireland) | Posted: Aug 31, 2008 - 12:57 I agree. So much negativity. A good song. I enjoyed it; such a shame to hear so much criticism! What a bunch of miserable gits you all are! Relentlessly slagging comments without a positive sentiment in sight. Maybe I'm just a pervert, but I quite like this effort, including the vibrato. How anyone can reckon he sounds like Tiny Tim I don't know - that's at least two octaves above this guy. I would give it 7, but as a corrective to all the negativity on here it's 8 from the Nottingham jury. |
| Sullen (Hellview) | Posted: Aug 31, 2008 - 12:54 I don't know if I can bear to hear this song again...ever... |
