| HarrO (Florida) | Posted: Oct 24, 2008 - 18:39 Another group upset by somebody covering one of their favorite songs. Doing a cover is tribute, an nod that they think the tune is special enough to do again. So open your ears folks and give covers a serious listen. |

| roseap (Portland, OR) | Posted: Aug 28, 2008 - 08:26 Ok, you have to give this cover some credit... songs are generally written in a specific language so that the timing, syllables, and rhymes of the chosen words fit in with the music. The translated words actually work really well, and in those parts where there were extra syllables, the singer managed to fit them in as if they were originally in the song. I remember the first time hearing it thinking "I know the tune, but..." I for one liked it. |

| OmegaConcern (Sunrise, FL) | Posted: Aug 22, 2008 - 13:59 Just because it's "world music" doesn't make it a) good or b) cultural. This doesn't suck, but it certainly doesn't fill a musical void that needed filling. |

Because if it's a non-English song, it's automatically good, and all the naysayers are close-minded, right? You get a cookie for being so worldly. So much more cultured than the rest of us shmucks. |
| westslope (BC coast) | Posted: Aug 22, 2008 - 13:53 I'm not at all convinced that Bono's perscriptions for Africa will really help the continent in the long run. I want to hear Bono talk about difficult subjects like regional neo-Malthusian crises and related material. But I do like this cover. |
| dctrpunda (the thin line of here) | Posted: Aug 22, 2008 - 13:52 Did this group do more than three U2 covers? If so, Bono should sue. This shouldn't of made it out of the living room it was made in. |

If I can remove the fact that I know it's U2 — and it's so uniquely arranged that I can — this is kinda cool. Completely agree. At the start I was really digging the African feel, then I realized it was a cover of Mysterious Ways and thought "oh cool" and then I noticed that it was on a CD celebrating U2 and I got a bad taste in my mouth. But I think in the end I can definitely enjoy this |

joking? I can certainly understand the "St. Bono" jokes etc. But he (and the band as well) really does spend a lot of time pushing and raising money for solutions to some of Africa's problems. Of course, any project like this is going to make us wonder about motivation and where funds are going etc, but I don't think it's surprising that Africa and U2 be on the same album. |

Probably because many of Bono's charitable and political efforts have been focused on Africa. |

Reminds me of a friend of mine who was in the business of handing out government money for community development in Alaska. This was many years ago. The community/tribe in question asked for money for meat to feed their sled dogs and ammunition for their rifles: they made their living by hunting and that's the kind of support the community needed. My friend painstakingly explained that these kinds of funds could be used only for schools, public works projects, road improvements and the like, but meat and bullets were clearly off the table. There was a long silence before the chief spoke, "Racist." Y'know, Cambot, I think the comment was about the song... |
