These walls have eyes
Rows of photographs
With faces like mine
Who do we become
Without knowing where we started from
It's true
I'm missing you
And I stand alone
Inside your room
Everything that you made by hand
Everything that you know by heart
I will try to connect
All the pieces you've left
I will carry it on
And let you forget
I'll remember the years
When your mind was still clear
All the flickering lights
They filled up this silent house
One room
Two beds
In the closet hangs your favourite dress
Good books that you read
Are in pieces now
The pages are shredded
Everything that you made by hand
Everything that you know by heart
I will try to connect
All the pieces you've left
I will carry it on
And let you forget
I'll remember the years
When your mind was still clear
All the flickering lights
That filled up this silent house
Everything that you made by hand
Everything that you know by heart
All the names that you can't recall
I will try to connect
All the pieces you've left
I will carry it on
And let you forget
I'll remember the years
When your mind was still clear
All the flickering lights
That filled up this silent house

Just dug out my copy of the Chick's CD... they credit all three of the Chicks and Neil Finn as song writers. Both versions are very powerful, the distortion on this version is a little annoying though. |

| djblitz (Boston, MA) | Posted: May 26, 2009 - 16:24 Their tunes are so hit and miss with me......this one is high and outside. |
| water (a shoreline somewhere warm) | Posted: May 26, 2009 - 16:23 perfect timing bill!..i needed to hear neil and this is my favourite song off the album *distortion is right...bad upload maybe |
| inindian (Sea of joy) | Posted: Apr 25, 2009 - 00:37 Perhaps the distortion is an intentional allusive technique that infers the distortion of normal mental function caused by dementia...no!?...I'm thinking too much, right? spunkyboy62 wrote: Love this song. In my mind the Chicks' version is better than this. More generally, I don't know why the Chicks don't get played on RP. They are absolutely great. |

| flax99 (Southern California) | Posted: Nov 18, 2008 - 00:57 Wow, that was beautiful. Brought tears to my eyes, and I don't even know anyone (living) with Alzheimer's. |

| liser (on the green turtle) | Posted: Oct 17, 2008 - 12:29 I take care of an Alzheimer's patient part-time - this song is heartbreakingly true. He's a veteran of three wars, has traveled the world over several times, raised four beautiful children and now he can't remember how to tie his shoes. It's very hard to watch, but I bet it's even harder to live. |
| Kittee (NC- Dreaming of the Mountains) | Posted: Oct 17, 2008 - 12:27 Hmm I like it. |
| philinnz (Wellington, New Zealand) | Posted: Sep 15, 2008 - 21:25 I will hear it a couple more times before I give it a rating. Coming over very buzzy |
| water (a shoreline somewhere warm) | Posted: Sep 15, 2008 - 21:21 this is by far my favourite off this album...thanks bill i guess my original upload wasn't good enough |

I think it is actually better. Needs time tho. |

| NoEnzLefttoSplit | Posted: Jul 14, 2008 - 16:16 This was the song that Lexie talked about, drawing attention to the lyrics.. singing about someone with Alzheimers/dementia gets me by the jugular. hmm.. that distortion is there in the original too but feels a bit, well, cleaner. ![]() |
