There comes a time
A time in everyone's life
When nothing seems to go your way
Where nothing seems to turn out right
There may come a time
When you just can't seem to find your place
And for every door you open
It seems like you get two slammed in your face
That's when you need someone
Someone that you can call
When all your faith is gone
And it feels like you can't go on
Let it be me
Let it be me
If it's a friend you need
Let it be me
Let it be me
When it feels like you're always comin' up last
Pockets full of nothin' ain't got no cash
No matter where you turn
You ain't got no place to stand
You reach out for something and they slap your hand
I remember all too well
Just how it feels to be all alone
To feel like you'd give anything
For just a little place you can call your own
That's when you need someone
Someone that you can call
When all your faith is gone
And it feels like you can't go on
Let it be me
Let it be me
If it's a friend you need
Let it be me
Let it be me

I totally disagree with you. In my opinion he has enormous talent and a very low key demeanor. I enjoy his work a lot. I think he writes great lyrics and I feel that his voice is unique and special. |
| Geecheeboy (under a crescent moon and palmetto tree) | Posted: Aug 06, 2009 - 15:28 Some unnecessarily harsh criticism of Ray below. I think he's pretty good. |

| devmorfo | Posted: Apr 09, 2009 - 02:22 And another song for autistic people ... C'mon guys and gals ... this guy sucks big time ... lets ban him from everywhere |

| deepwoodskev (In a town west of Chicago) | Posted: Jan 14, 2009 - 13:38 A little LaMontagne goes a LONG way. Hey Ray, how about mixin' things up a bit? You sound the same in EVERY song!!!!! ZZZZZZZZZZ |

| greyfin10 (Panama City, FL) | Posted: Dec 09, 2008 - 12:43 He's got such a distictive delivery, its both a blessing and a curse. That which makes me say "wow" eventually makes all the songs sound the same. I feel similarly about Sufjan Stevens... I like him, but I need a break occasionally to keep from getting "too much" of a good thing. |

| Mugro (Lane Village, Red Sox Nation) | Posted: Nov 12, 2008 - 09:57 I first heard Ray on an NPR program in 2004. I was captivated immediately by his voice and the arrangement of his songs and vowed right then and there to get some of his music. It took me another six months before Trouble came out to get some of his music, and since then I have purchased everything he has put out. What a wonderful artist!! |

"Gossip In The Grain" (2008) is the third album of Mr. Raymond Charles "Ray" LaMontagne; excellent register of voice; it is always good that if register with affability the extraordinary evolution and care that if has come to notice in its music throughout the time; Congratulations! ** 8 ** |
| JesseJ (Madison, WI) | Posted: Oct 31, 2008 - 13:31 If you wanna hear some spectacular Ray, check out his Pre-Trouble stuff listed here. Acre of Land and Green Demo are just awesome. None of this stuff was ever actually released so you have to scour the net for it. |

| bronorb (Wisconsin) | Posted: Oct 28, 2008 - 08:17 I bought one of his other CDs and found myself getting tired of hearing his voice after a few songs. All of it sounds like it is in the same key, same volume, same intonation, with minor variations in the instruments. This song follows right along with the others. |
| velvetglove (Savage, MD) | Posted: Oct 28, 2008 - 08:14 This song isn't bad. Surprised to be writing this, but I'm a little disappointed with what I've heard from this album. |
| geordiezimmerman (Brighton U.K) | Posted: Oct 28, 2008 - 08:08 I'm a massive Ray fan but I feel his songwriting on this one is pretty weak. A bit to cheesy for me this one. |
| Tana (Lancaster, PA) | Posted: Oct 28, 2008 - 08:07 Gorgeous. Sinks me right in. Great to hear it on RP. |
