Black night down heavy on my weary brow
Light shining in the pouring rain
Can see somehow cold comfort in the broken trees
But I won't let it bring me to my knees
I'm not flying, but I'm not drowning now
Keep driving, don't matter if the highway's lost
Keep running, never turn your head
Count the cost ghost waiting where the roads all cross
Big deal waiting when you get to meet the boss
Clouds are breaking, I'm not drowning now, drowning now
Flying, but I'm not drowning now
Sad old man smiling with a shameful grin
He thinks that we never can lose
Never beat the dealer when he cuts the pack
First back to front, then deal front to back
Now I'm flying, I'm not drowning now, drowning now

| howardzb (Toronto) | Posted: Nov 22, 2010 - 12:02 So easy to listen to this song & the entire CD. He was fabulous in concert this past summer. |

Sounds like a great show! |
| DavidS_UK (Central England, UK) | Posted: Jun 16, 2010 - 07:00 But for ultimate video using Stevie's music, then Eric Prydz's sampling from "Valerie", as used in the basically near-pornographic "Call on Me" is probably the best video.... |
| Antigone (A house, in a valley, Virginia) | Posted: Jun 16, 2010 - 06:57 I like this more every time I hear it. Great hook. |
| nigelr (Coffs Harbour, Australia) | Posted: Jun 04, 2010 - 00:33 Majestic, as you'd expect. Old fans will enjoy checking out some of the youtube footage of SW & EC. Personally I love his 80's stuff as well. |
| scrubbrush | Posted: May 28, 2010 - 14:11 Wow, can that guy sing. no wonder he was considered for lead singer in practically every band that was formed in england between 67 and... |
| Cynaera (South of Neanderthal) | Posted: May 28, 2010 - 14:09 I'm only twelve bars into this song, and I already love it! Good to hear some newer stuff from him. ![]() |

His last two releases are excellent efforts and puts him firmly back into the venerable postion he deserves. Thanks Bill for putting this one in rotation, I was waiting to hear some of this new record turn up on RP. Venerated indeed. Steve is generally regarded as one of the most talented musicians in the business. |

| jbunniii (San Jose, CA) | Posted: Jan 28, 2010 - 13:49 Wow, this guy got so overplayed in the 1980s that it was hard to imagine hearing him again without groaning. (Kind of like John Travolta after the 1970s.) But this isn't bad at all. |
| birdland (Right about....here.) | Posted: Nov 07, 2009 - 09:05 Wow. Ok. That's how it's done. Sweet, groove blues. Very cool. |

| FrankMc | Posted: Aug 27, 2009 - 07:36 Perhaps you meant "venerated." Venerable means something that has merit largely by virtue of age, which, of course Winwood does at this point, but I don't think he'd really like that being his chief attribute. (And, of course, he first showed up at about age 10 or something doing a mean sendup of Ray Charles, so he couldn't have been venerable at that point.) Venerated means that something is revered or held in high esteem, which Winwood generally is, although some crab suggested he was dragging down Clapton on that great remake of Can't Find My Way Home that's been getting some play. No accounting for taste, I suppose. (To wit: I thought this song dragged—maybe a 5—and it rates over a 7 with RPers.) sharkartist wrote: So good to see Steve Winwood back in good form again after the dreck he was churning out in the 80's. | helgigermany (Germany) | Posted: Aug 24, 2009 - 06:11 Never heard this before . So now you know the reason because i was looking for RP. In Germany I could not find one station that plays such good stuff as this is. Thank you ! |

| keller1 (In A Gadda Da Vida, Baby) | Posted: Feb 27, 2009 - 12:58 This guy has put out a ton of good music over the years. About Time, Refugees of the Heart, and this one are good albums pretty much beginning to end. |
