Agreed ... absolutely love RP ... only time I have to walk away is when I need a little excitement in the day/night with something like the brilliance of Tool amongst others.

Rebecca/Bill, please, just a couple of heavier tracks just once in a while ;o)

... And I didn't even know Maynard was in this side project. Immediately thought Porcupine Tree when I heard this, except slightly darker and harder to listen to. Love it. :D

I really like this. I've enjoyed Tool ever since 'Sober' (ah...MTV when it was good) in the early 90's, but never knew there were any side projects. Thanks for the info! That's why I love this station. For years RP and all of its wonderful listeners have been showing me music and insights that, I feel, make me a better, or at least, a more well-rounded, person.

I am not into "Metal" or any music that has an adjective to describe it (other than "good"), but I think this is a legitimate question that deserves a response.

Not a bad thing I suppose, but I wouldn't mind hearing things get a little harder from time to time.

Bill, I'm really enjoying that you're dipping into Maynard's work. Although many people can't hear Tool for anything but noise, they are so much more than that! They are so intelligent and are only progressing in their talents as artists continuing to please our ears. Please take a look at Tool's - Wings for Marie pt.2 off 10000 Days. Written in context to his mother. Such a beautiful song. Also; The Humbling River by Pusifer is amazing as well. Thank you radio paradise :-D

agreed. i like some songs by A Perfect Circle, some by Tool and some by Porcupine Tree (let's not forget Pucifer!). They can sound similar but all have their moments of greatness

i like pt much better these days. they're less artificial and there's less posing involved. i like steven wilson's attitude a lot. he's like the typical nerd type of guy next door, doesn't put on much of a show. it's just him and his mic. or guitar. or whatever. it's so nicely low key :o) and though it's not really "happy" music, it's indeed feel good music, lifts (me) up. i feel like it does not depress like tool & apc. theirs is "commit-suicide-with-your-whole-family"-music :o) pussy fur is too vulgar and sexual topic obsessed (only?) artwork-wise for my taste ... it's icky ... but I'm a sissy anyway.

concerning tool - i think tool lost a lot since opiate and undertow. they just should have stopped after that ;oP it never got rawer and more crispy after that. garage sound aesthetics and an unagitated attitude are hard to preserve as soon as you get financially pampered, I guess. it just got more and more bombastically produced und stadion-rock-type-thingy imho. though it was really really innovative, it got really tiring over the years...and b o r i n g. i can't bear listening to the latter records anymore...they are just TOO MUCH to digest. :oI i'd love if they'd do "simple & straight & forward" songs again.

it's interesting to see how many avid fans and followers there still are for the glorified lead singer - i always thought that's a teen age thing.

Yes.  APC really just makes me want to hear Tool...with a Porcupine Tree chaser.  Sounds like a full prog metal meal.

Despite what some folks (not you, per se) may believe, Porcupine Tree did not invent this style of music.  They do seem to be the foremost purveyors of it these days, though.
Quite a good song, by the way.

A brilliant album (ha, i said album). it has mellowing undertone unlike a Tool album where it can get pretty hard at times. The whole thing puts me in a trance but not quite unconscious.
Love the segue
