This should be playing in the background of the chase/emergency/critical point of a romantic drama just before it resolves in a near-thing-but-positive fashion. It just seems applicable. This could also be because I haven't had enough coffee.

I applaud you Aud! A beautiful answer! Couldn't agree more. This version makes the song far more tolerable. The pretentious lyrics and vocal performance of Coldplay's original is stifling to a beautiful melody. Really like this.

I wonder if I would have liked this, had I not already been exposed to the original (which I dislike intensely).  The arrangement isn't bad, but I can't get past that cloying melody.  I have to agree with a lot of the posts below...sometimes when one takes an annoying song, instrumentalizes it, the result is even more annoying Muzak.

I believe this might be an improvement over the original....never liked the original, however, so my opinion is a bit damning with faint praise.

I don't really need this instrumental cover, but it does serve to highlight what a powerful melody the original song had.

Part of me would love to be able to hate on Coldplay, but I find it pretty hard to do.

I love a good mournful string cover, but after an initial 7, I had to downgrade to a 6 because of this overplayed song's increasing association with any kind of elimination scene in every kind of reality show. Cue the slow motion hug montage!

In my sadly mis-spent youth, I spent several years producing ghastly sounds from a violin while attempting to learn it. While I never mastered that instrument, I still enjoy some good string instruments.  This piece scratches that itch remarkably well.

Thank you — "Young At Heart" is SUCH a great documentary, and this version of the song reminds me of that old guy's rendition.  So even though this version is not so good, it still brings a tear to my eye remembering the passion that group of old people had.

 
Proof that those who don't remember the past are doomed to come off sounding like total jerks.  I urge every one of you haters to watch that video.   You don't have to like the music, or the performers, but at least stop griping about how pathetic you think the music is, and focus on the situation in which the music is being performed.  May people be more gracious to YOU when you're dying and whining about it. At least these folks are going out with their heads held high.
