Yeah, I think they're crashed in Quartzite now. Another reason to take the back roads.

Thought this might be a Tom Waits song. Guess I was wrong.

their music is infectious as hell, swingin' like a gin-swozzled junebug, and as sage as a grinning ranch-hand looking toward darkening skies.

Vocally sounds like Everlast.  Love that guy! This song sucks though.

I enjoy this kind of slow song/ballad song once and a while. Thanks Bill.

I have a thing for trumpets.  Especially played in this manner.  I love the raspy voice, kind of reminencent to JC himself (haha, Johnny Cash)

Is this a cheap ripoff of two Tom Waits songs: "Hang on St. Christopher" and "Chocolate Jesus"?

What's up with all the Christian music on RP? Do Bill and Rebecca have ulterior motives?

Someone's going to have to explain to me what the difference is between this and Tom Waits. I don't like Tom Waits at all, but I would think someone who does like Tom Waits would dig this.

OK, so he's drunk driving down the road, littering — tossing bottles of Empty T-Bird out the windows; he's shooting at Sugaro Cactii — that a Felony times two, discharging a firearm AND a Federal Rap, destruction of preserved plants Important to the Birkenstock folks.  He's doing a out of body experience as a Tom Waits clone and the trailer house on the cover is right out of the movie about deaders with Tom Waits.  Yeah, and plastic flowers .. candles .. in the desert .. out back of San Diego, maybe around Jacumba?  Heading down the road to Carizo Gorge, by the old railroad overpass where my dead sister's dead boyfriend jumped so many years ago and wasn't found for some three months ... talk about your road-kill mummies ...

Yep, he definitely should NOT sing about Hay-Sueus cause Ghod will get ya in the end.

From the title of this, I thought it might be an entirely different song:

Each time this song plays, I'm a little disappointed it's not Dashboard Jesus instead. Don't get me wrong — this one is all right . . . but not quite what I, initially, always think it is.

I'm enjoying.

The obvious Tom Waits parallels don't hurt (since I like TW a lot) ... not just lyrically, but right down to that distinctive Tom Waits warble in the voice.

I do not understand people thinking the parallel between this and Jenny Lewis' "Next Messiah" (previous in the playlist) is some sort of "Jesus spree" by Bill (as if two songs is a 'spree') ... or that this would necessarily be a bad thing.   Some people just don't get deeper than the song title ... listen to the lyrics!
