Met him a few times in Adams Morgan back in the '90s. Very cool cat. Closed a show at the Black Cat with a song called "Tyson:"

"...Got a pipe
called Tyson
and its gonna knock you out!"

Great to hear his music.

Here's to Cope! {#Cowboy}

Just saw this group the other night on SXSW. It was raining pretty good while he was singing. Seemed appropriate for song. Weird how his lips don't really move while he sings. I like them.

Oh and Ben Harper just came out or something? Check out Harper's "Excuse me Mr." from 1995's "Fight for Your Mind"

Uhh wow, this is one of the most blatant rip-offs I've heard. Listen to Ben Harper's "Excuse Me Mister" same chords for verse and for lyrics, even very similar phrasing.

You may be referring to Antares' AutoTune, software that allows pitch correction of a recorded vocal track.  It can even be used live, if I remember correctly.

Any linguists out there able to translate this into humanspeak of some flavor? Thanks for the Citizen Cope exposure, Bill. Overzealous novelty production noted, but there's a lot of soul and heart to Mr. Greenwood. How about adding "Brother Lee" to feature the great storytelling ability of this artist?
