Beautiful
Alone with my enemy
And share a bitter cup
Of poisoning
My countenance
To see his face in mine
And follow every line
Back to my enemy
You are mine
Pennyroyal wine fly
Like an innocent child
That followed every line
Back to my enemy
Beautiful
Falling fast from a state of grace
And trusting there is a light
In darkest place
My dirty knees
Hold the ground till it's done with me
I've come to see that beauty is a thing
That is without grace
You are mine
Pennyroyal wine fly
Like an innocent child
That followed every line
Back to my enemy
Beautiful
At home with my history
And run the scarlet ink
With the tears of mercy
My battle wounds
Lay to rest a treasure box
And thinkin of the scars
As the jewels of my story
You are mine
Pennyroyal wine fly
Like an innocent child
That followed every line
Back to my enemy

| Propayne (Richmond VA) | Posted: Mar 11, 2012 - 07:17 I had not heard of Jesca when I saw her open for the Eels a year or so back. I was just mesmerized by her. Not sure why, as she is such a unique performer, but she really seemed familiar to me. Her voice, her lyrics. She manned her merchandise table after her performance and I got to chat with her and bought some cds and some vinyl. She made a fan out of me and I hope she continues to make records. |

| Cynaera (In a hammock under my own vine and fig tree.) | Posted: Dec 03, 2011 - 11:57 This song - her voice, those mystic lyrics, the simple-yet-complex guitar - hits me right in the muse, much the way the "Runes" Zeppelin album did. I think I'm going to buy this. I bought this just now. It's exquisite. RP, you make it FAR TOO EASY to get carried away with spending money on good music. |

This song entrances me. I might have to buy the CD to see if her other work has a similar effect on me. Yes, it has a really beautiful sound to it... and there is some irony to how the music is so beautiful and gentle and the lyrics are so hard and brutal... makes this song very interesting... |

| eb12 | Posted: May 23, 2011 - 22:08 Beautiful song, disturbing lyrics. I bought her "Hunting My Dress" album and can't stop listening to it. Highly recommended. |

| danimal3114u (Austin, TX) | Posted: Apr 22, 2011 - 08:21 Thanks for introducing me to this amazing artist. She works between a wide variety of genres, all of which she does an excellent job with. She reminds me of Regina Spektor, but with more range. |

| jhorton | Posted: Feb 22, 2011 - 16:43 What a lovely little bit of strangeness that was. Listen different. |
| Cynaera (South of Neanderthal) | Posted: Feb 22, 2011 - 16:43 Okay, wow. These vocals are pretty awesome. I like the haunting lyrics (I mean, who ever uses the word "pennyroyal"?) This is probably going to end up on my list of music to purchase. Good stuff! |

If you believe Wikipedia, she was born in '76 and was indeed nanny to Tom Waits' children (not to Tom Waits himself, note). And yes, she is kinda cute, as is this song which is rather sweet :o) |

In truth, Tom Waits is only 3 years older than Justin Bieber. His publicists try to suppress knowledge of the fact that he suffers from Richards' Syndrome, a condition wherein the body ages prematurely in response to relentless exposure to recreational pharmaceutical agents. Being raised by a licentious nanny probably didn't help, either. |
