It’s been a long time
Since I’ve seen your smiling face
It’s been a long time
Since I’ve seen a su-u-u-u-u-u-unny day
It’s been a long time
Since you wore your pillbox hat
It’s been a long time
Since we drove your Po-o-o-o-o-o-ontiac
It’s been a long time
Since you gave me bu-u-u-u-u-u-u-utterflies
It’s been a long time
Since I’ve seen it bu-u-u-u-u-u-urning in your eyes
But I don’t mind (I don’t mind)
No, I don’t (I don’t mind)
No, I don’t (I don’t mind)
When I’ve got you next to me
It’s been a long time
Since we tripped into this ditch
It’s been a long time
Since we drank the ar-r-r-r-r-r-rsenic
It’s been a long time
Since we’ve been insi-i-i-i-i-i-ide of this tomb
It’s been a long time
Since you wore your e-e-e-e-e-expensive French perfume
But I don’t mind (I don’t mind)
No, I don’t (I don’t mind)
But I don’t (I don’t mind)
When I’ve got you next to me
Next to me
It’s been a long time
Since I’ve seen your smiling face
It’s been a long time
Since I’ve seen a su-u-u-u-u-u-unny day
| MojoJojo (Indianapolis, IN USA) | Posted: Mar 22, 2013 - 19:10 It has been a Cake-tastic day! Driving to work I PSD'd my way to a Cake song and when the PSD was over another Cake song was on. Now this tonight! Woot! |
| offroadbiker (gooder 'n grits) | Posted: Nov 17, 2012 - 08:05 Sweet! I love the sound of Cake, as well as the brilliant and witty lyrics. Play Bound Away for us! |

I generally like Cake songs but their most 'popular' songs are almost novelty tunes or the main attribute is a snappy, clever title or lyric. That tends to get outdated for me. This is a nice little melodic gem. I don't know their catalog thoroughly but it's nice to hear something more straightforward from them. You should grab an album or two - they are all good - Fashion Nugget & Prolonging the Magic are probably my favs - their second & third. |
| Biscobret (Vashon, WA) | Posted: Sep 15, 2012 - 10:11 I love me some Cake! Great talent, unique & fun. Not my favorite Cake tune, but nice nonetheless. |

If there is a quality award for his little niche of the music industry ("distribution", "packaging", "packing AND distribution" or something like that?) I say Bill should DEFINITELY be nominated for an award. And if there isn't that kind award, there should be and Bill should get it. I've been a RP fan for at least 8 years, maybe 10 or 11, and I've watched it grow and evolve, adding interesting features all the time, never staying static, and ALWAYS playing an incredibly rich and varied mix of music. Bill and Rebecca deserve a lot of appreciation for what they've created here. Totally agree (and 've been a long time listener as well) but as I understood it once, mainly Rebecca deserves this praise, since she's responsible for the playlist whereas Bill comments and sooths the records together. But I could be wrong (or this might have changed over the years). On the subject Cake -Long Time. Always great to listen to the extraordinary cool voice of Cake; not their best song though (7/10). |

| rdo (DC) | Posted: Mar 09, 2012 - 16:26 I've had enough cake. |
| mmmyes | Posted: Mar 09, 2012 - 16:26 Love Cake but the new album seems a little bit formulaic. |
| unclehud (300 feet above the planet) | Posted: Dec 05, 2011 - 09:25 Specialists in cute, witty lyrics. And I'm sure Jackie O is still wearing pillbox hats in her inimitable stylish and sexy manner — wherever she is today. |
| Odyzzeuz (Austin, Texas) | Posted: Nov 03, 2011 - 18:46 Specialists in silly meaningless lyrics. |
| haretic (toward Abad, just south of Maitri) | Posted: Sep 09, 2011 - 16:28 No one! No one wore them anymore in 1966 either, when Dylan's classic song was recorded. (That was the point). How about it, Bill? A perfect "inside" segue here would be to "Leopard-Skin Pillbox Hat!" (IMHO, it ranks among the funniest songs Dylan ever wrote). edit: I just checked the RP playlist, and LSPH is on there. Very interesting! The song has never been played on RP, and yet 12 listeners have rated it, for an average of 8.7! What a golden opportunity to remedy an oversight! Mita wrote: Fun song! | Alexandra (Hopefully, departing the Gem City VERY soon) | Posted: Jun 07, 2011 - 07:33 The story/lyrics behind this tune are what gets me. What a chilling surprise. |
| BigTimber (Fort Collins) | Posted: May 30, 2011 - 08:57 i just love Cake. call it what you will, but it always puts a smile on me face. silly good stuff; for all the full oats too serious coffee shop revolutionariness distasters, I'll take a triple with some coffee Cake. i tried to toy the trumpet once and was no better than Sasquatch, so i dig that element especially. PS remember what Gandhi said, kids? Yeah me neither, but Cake is the shizznitch! |
