When that fat old sun in the sky is falling,
Summer evening birds are calling.
Summer's thunder time of year,
The sound of music in my ears.
Distant bells,
New mown grass smells so sweet.
By the river holding hands,
Roll me up and lay me down.
And if you sit,
Don't make a sound.
Pick your feet up off the ground.
And if you hear as the warm night falls
The silver sound from a time so strange,
Sing to me, sing to me.
When that fat old sun in the sky is falling,
Summer evening birds are calling.
Children's laughter in my ears,
The last sunlight disappears.
And if you sit,
Don't make a sound.
Pick your feet up off the ground.
And if you hear as the warm night falls
The silver sound from a time so strange,
Sing to me, sing to me.
When that fat old sun in the sky is falling,
Summer evening birds are calling.
Children's laughter in my ears,
The last sunlight disappears.

| suesblues (Sydney, Australia) | Posted: Dec 21, 2012 - 21:52 I dont get how this song is so highly rated.... 1 from me.... snoooore zzzzzzzzzzzz.... ok just as I was about to press 'submit' the electric guitar kicked in. Couldn't he have just started with that, and left his dreary singing behind? I've bumped it up to 3. |

| calypsus_1 (East of Eden) | Posted: Sep 13, 2012 - 12:07 Let see: usually, the songs that go on airplay on radio stations in general (not specifically in RP) serve as a first analysis, and aim "to raise rabbits ears", songs are more impactful, to fill the ear, requiring perhaps a more accessible work of hearing, leaving up to each listener's interest to discover for themselves, the songs that require more work to be heard, with more complex orchestrations (ie side B of albums ), in intimacy with the work of artists, not subject to scrutiny, and only to obtain personal pleasure and not transmissible. What I want to stress is that the prospect of radio stations which is based on disclosure and repetition, on the one hand, and listeners seeking an experience of satisfaction, are different, and not always coincide. There is only one drawback, is that listening to radio airplay, listeners can accept a part for the whole. This works both ways. If all the songs are all of a good standard, the listener feels compensated. But if the songs in air play not reflect the entire album, the more certain is get disappointed. But that's how it works. A radio station is not a turntable. And listen to the radio, not replace being possessed of certain musical album (cd). The album "Live in Gdansk (2008)" contains a number of notable songs, with the flavor of the spontaneity of the artists on stage acting. Here there is only one song "Fat Old Sun", perhaps because many of the other songs already listed here on studio albums. But it's worth listening to this album in full. |

| calypsus_1 (East of Eden) | Posted: Aug 07, 2012 - 10:39 "A Great Day for Freedom" is a song by Pink Floyd from their 1994 album, The Division Bell. The song, originally titled In Shades of Grey, addresses the great hopes following the fall of the Berlin Wall and the disappointment that followed. David Gilmour stated: "There was a wonderful moment of optimism when the Wall came down – the release of Eastern Europe from the non-democratic side of the socialist system. But what they have now doesn't seem to be much better. Again, I'm fairly pessimistic about it all. I sort of wish and live in hope, but I tend to think that history moves at a much slower pace than we think it does. I feel that real change takes a long, long time". Gilmour performed it at his solo concerts in 2002 and 2006, and a live album from one of the 2006 concerts, Live in Gdańsk, features the song. wikipedia On the day the wall came down They threw the locks onto the ground And with glasses high we raised a cry for freedom had arrived On the day the wall came down The Ship of Fools had finally ran aground Promises lit up the night like paper doves in flight I dreamed you had left my side No warmth, not even pride remained And even though you needed me It was clear that I could not do a thing for you Now life devalues day by day As friends and neighbors turn away And there's a change that, even with regret, cannot be undone Now frontiers shift like desert sands While nations wash their bloodied hands Of loyalty, of history, in shades of grey I woke to the sound of drums The music played, the morning sun streamed in I turned and I looked at you And all but the bitter residues slipped away...slipped away The moment of history that relates to this song, the inspiration and determination of the musicians of the band Pink Floyd, the lyrics, are more than enough reason to convert this song almost of mandatory hearing. |

| kingart (Brooklyn NY) | Posted: Mar 07, 2012 - 16:51 DG's axe is all but overwhelming. A friend of mine, ask him who the greatest guitar god is, in half a second he goes straight to Gilmour. After this, Comfortably Numb and a few others, it's hard to argue with him. |
| cmarcan | Posted: Mar 07, 2012 - 16:50 I Like the "Remember that Night" live version better than this one. Not that it's bad, but the "Remember that Night" version has gotta be my favorite guitar solo of all time. I must go listen to that version now. |

Apparently, some people really dislike this tune for whatever reasons; it's their prerogative. That reason being for me that he sings in the cracks and slides pitch around, much like Neil Young. He's quite talented but his singing style's a bit annoying to me. I don't mind hearing him (or NY) occasionally, and that's pretty much the play frequency here at RP. So I'm cool with this. |
