Yeah she sort of screwed up her personal life by hanging onto this guy for far too long.  If he had lived till today, she probably would have discovered he wasn't "all that".

Sounds like a cover of a U2 song that was never recorded. Especially during the chorus...

I made the comment already, but with repitition, I wish I could make out more of the lyrics of this song more clearly.  I dearly love ELH, but this vocal treatment of the lyrics is a style departure for her.

Beyond the song, and Emmylou, I love the production on this, especially the guitar sounds and soundstage for the whole recording. Really well done. I always reach for my headphones when it comes on.

When she hits those notes on the lyric "on the wings of a song / I fly away" she really makes me feel like flying away.  That is a truly great hook.

Emmylou is wonderful, but THUNK, too much THUNK, drums, THUNK, THUNK, THUNK.

Thirding, fourthing that... it's kinda jarring for a song of this type.  Nice bridge though.

Exactly! Love the song, hate the "thunk" - noise heard too often, unfortunately.

Emmylou—Our Musical Treasure. I just Wiki'd her and her output, collaboration, and contribution to music is truly remarkable.
One more great song from Emmylou—I love it. I just wish the lyrics were easier to discern, which is a departure in style for her.
