This sounds like it belongs on the Commitments soundtrack. Sadly, both Etta and Welcome to the Jungle are much better than that...

Compare this Etta/GNR tragedy to the greatness Johnny Cash covering NIN Hurt: http://www.radioparadise.com/rp_2.php?#name=songinfo&song_id=33392

{#Think}   Um......wow.  When I saw the title come up, I expected so much more.  No disrespect meant for Etta, she was one of the best.  This cover, not so much.

Went from 3 to a 2 on this one.  This is eroding from Etta's great legacy...How about something else from her that shows her strengths?

Loathsome song redone with some style, but barf-worthy nonetheless.

Wow.  I didn't think this song could ever be believably re-interpreted and covered.  Etta did it!  Sorta like Johnny Cash doing Sound Garden's "Rusty Cage".  But I'd still say Cash doing NIN's "Hurt" is the most poignant singing-against-type song re-invention I've heard.

Yeah, Cash's "Hurt" almost brings me to tears.

Loved Etta.

Love GNR's Welcome to the Jungle

Find this strangely unsettling.  I dunno.

Ms James (RIP) has certainly earned the right to artistic interpretation - I don't like it, but hey - she's a legend and it didn't make me go blind or deaf (cringed a bit though...). Maybe Axel will return the favor...? Why not, he looks pretty bored (pathetic) on stage anymore - obviously has nothing else to do (or lose).

I agree - not good, but Axel's version would stink too without Slash.

This is so funny!
Just yesterday I was thinking "When is Etta James going to record a Guns & Roses song?"

And then WHAM, just like that I hear it.

Now if only Pat Boone would release that P-Diddy song

Fantanstic!!  Thanks so much playing her.   This is the second cut I have heard you play ( Groove Me) also.  You have inspired me to get my first ever Etta James album.

Huh.  Hadn't realized there was a way to make GnR tolerable, let alone enjoyable. And yet here it is...
