It's been a long time since I listened to that one, but I beat this album to death during my last year in college while studying in England (such good times. The final exams—all or nothing, none of your work during the year counted—were stress city but in the end not that hard).

I'm pretty sure that this song was the designated single on the album—hence the poppiness. It was a big hit here and in the UK and rightfully so.

There's a tough exterior to Chrissy Hynde that is appealing...but she also has a vulnerability in her vocal tone that makes her so unique. Great tune...but not my favorite of Pretenders.

I LOVED Afternoon Delight!  It took me till my fourth decade to catch "Sky Rockets in flight!", HA!, but man, when I was a kid, that song ruled...

Hating a decade is lame and a silly prejudice. I mean really narrow minded to shut your ears to a period, any period of time has things for you to like and not like.

Should I hate the '50's because of Pat Boone when there was great doo wop vocal music to enjoy or Elvis Presley? Should I hate the '60's because of some wretched song by a bubblegum band and tune out the Beatles? Should I hate '70's music because of Afternoon Delight and close my ears to Led Zeppelin? Should I hate the '00's because of some idiotic rap or techno song and tune out Gnarls Barkley or the great songs I hear on Radio Paradise.

OF COURSE NOT.

Actually that's exactly what I love about Chrissie - she's not afraid to be really macho and really tender. She makes rock belong to the girls, too.

I think she's awesome. She pulls no punches, tells it like it is, and does it *her* way.

For me, it makes her all the more admirable, gives the character a bit more colour, rather than a vanilla singer just barely satisfying the crowd. A bit of controversy is a good thing...look at George Carlin :)

Oh, and the music's good too. And, impeccable taste in guitars :)
