"There must be some way out of here" said the joker to the thief
"There's too much confusion", I can't get no relief
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth.
"No reason to get excited", the thief he kindly spoke
"There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late".
All along the watchtower, princes kept the view
While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.
Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.
"There's too much confusion", I can't get no relief
Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth
None of them along the line know what any of it is worth.

| shamu247 (Secret Hideaway) | Posted: Mar 31, 2003 - 19:15 begone you foul beings. bob is the best. and no matter what you guys say he will always be the best. i was at his concert recently and the guy is intense! like he played until he looked like he was having a heart attack. he does not need to play concerts anymore as he is filthy rich but he does because it is what he likes to do. he does not give a shit about what anyone else thinks of him. purely respectable dude imho. ROCK ON BOB!.... |
| lordcruloze (Bellefonte, PA) | Posted: Dec 08, 2002 - 21:03 I'm sorry, it's time the old man hung up his hat. He's not getting any better. "Time out of mind" was a good album but a frind of mine put it best when I was complaining that Bob's music and performances just suck these days. He said that Dylan has lost his sense of humor. Too true - he has - sadly. He should make like M*A*S*H and stop while he's still one of the all-time greatest. |
| KevinM (Long Beach, Ca) | Posted: Nov 18, 2002 - 11:04 And I thought the Hendrix cover was bad....... |
| Johray63 (Meppel, The Netherlands (Holland)) | Posted: Oct 29, 2002 - 01:02 Suddenly had to think of the persiflage Frank Zappa once gave of Bob Dylan. He asks the bandmember who's playing Dylan; 'wanna buy some acid Bob?', just after "Bob" has done some really dreadful singing and harmonica playing |
| curtisls (Los Gatos, CA) | Posted: Oct 08, 2002 - 14:25 While I really enjoy the mystical quality of the Hendrix recording of this song, the definitive version for me is still the original, on the John Wesley Harding album. Dylan's style in that version is a sort of lamentation. He deftly weaves this this modern day parable with a wistfulness that is not over the top like so many who have come since. RP, play that version, if you please!!! ![]() |
| barre1 (Jacksonville, FL) | Posted: Jul 18, 2002 - 20:59 love Jimi's version but Dylan wrote and did it first. |

| Jacob (Lisboa) | Posted: Jul 18, 2002 - 18:11 Totally agree with the comments about Jimi's cover. When you want to ear this song, just play the Hendrix version. It's great. |
| rdr (Los Angeles, CA) | Posted: Jul 18, 2002 - 17:59 great tune. ONce I got over the "voice" thing with Dylan he became my favorite and now even appreciate it. Hendrix was hugely influenced by him and wished he wrote this song, but I admit Hendrix version is very powerful. |
| squarepixel (Troy, MI) | Posted: Jul 08, 2002 - 12:26 zibba bop... meaaah ba whaa... What the hell is he saying? |
| rsfc_carp (Secret Hideaway (USA)) | Posted: Jul 08, 2002 - 12:26 Bob deserves monstro credit for writing it, but as long as Jimi's performance exists, why does anyone else, including Bob, even try? |

| darcyc (Ann Arbor, MI) | Posted: May 28, 2002 - 14:36 agreed with previous poster - pretty wretched version |
| Enrique (Peru) | Posted: Mar 22, 2002 - 14:36 I really like Dylan but this version is to poop on. |
| catsoup (Euclid, OH) | Posted: Mar 22, 2002 - 14:35 Could we4 please set the Bob quota to one per day? |
