Well now take a look at that
I made a castle in the sand
Saying this is where it's at you
Couldn't understand now
If I realised that the chances were slim
How come I'm so surprised when the tide rolled in
Gonna live on solid rock
Gonna live on solid rock
Wanna give I don't wanna be blocked
I'm gonna live on solid rock
Well I'm sick of potential
I'm sick of vanity now
I'm sticking to essential reality now
I don't know what's worse
Try to make a silk purse
Living an illusion in confusion
Gonna live on solid rock
Gonna live on solid rock
Gonna live I don't wanna be blocked
I'm gonna live on solid rock
You know a house of cards
Never built for shock
You could blow it down in any kind of weather
Now you take two solid rocks two solid blocks
You know they're gonna stick
Yeah they're gonna stick together oh-oh
Yeah because the heart that you break
That's the one that you rely on
The bed that you make
That's the one you gotta lie on
When you point your finger cos your plan fell through
You got three more fingers pointing back at you yeah
Gonna live on solid rock
I'm gonna live on solid rock
I wanna give I don't wanna be blocked
I'm gonna live on solid
Rock rock solid rock
Rock rock solid rock
I wanna give I don't wanna be blocked
I'm gonna live on solid
Rock rock solid rock
Rock rock solid rock
I wanna give I don't wanna be blocked
I'm gonna live on solid solid solid solid rock
Solid rock
Solid rock

| fredriley (Nottingham, UK) | Posted: Sep 03, 2012 - 05:38 This is the only DS/Knopfler number I've actively disliked and have had to mute. Yer man's just shouting in the mike, the backing sucks, the tune sounds like something a drunk would compose after 10 pints and 3 whiskeys (or a six-pack of Special Brew), and it's got all the subtlety and feeling of a smack in the teeth with a half-brick. A real turkey in Knopfler's otherwise brilliant oeuvre, at least to these ears. |

This will always be one of my favorite Dire Straits songs. Huh, this is my least favorite song on the album. But I know what you mean about the "Sultans" apathy - it was "Romeo and Juliet" that made me sit up and take notice. |

| ProgFusion | Posted: Apr 19, 2009 - 03:23 I agree with a lot of the previous posters. Dire Straits has made some great songs. This is not one of them. |

| rcurrier (San Juan Capistrano, CA) | Posted: Mar 18, 2009 - 14:42 Love the song, but it sure sounds like low bit-rate mp3 mush to me. Noticeably inferior to the surrounding songs and much worse than my CD. Just sayin' that maybe a new upload would be a good thing. |

I like Dire Straits ... a lot. I don't even care about the narrow range in terms of style from one song to the next. It's a great vein and Mark Knopfler has mined it well. But I also have to say that, in comparison to some other artists I also like a lot, they do seem to be rather overrepresented on RP, both in terms of frequency of play and the number of different tracks available. |

I've heard (and even owned) several Dire Straits albums. Fact is, the guitar sound is very similar from song to song. Knopfler is much like Pat Metheny in that respect - hugely talented, but unable to change his style to fit the song. His voice also sounds the same on most of his songs, but I suppose that's easier to forgive. |
