I always thought the band was formed in Berkeley and that Tom & John where from Louisiana.
I checked and Bill was right.  They were born in Berkeley.

I still remember hearing this in my mom's 1962 Buick Skylark, KYES AM radio, Roseburg, Oregon. I kept cranking it up and she'd yell, "Turn that down!" Thanks for the memories, and I don't care how overplayed this is I still dig it.

Fred, I bet you'd like "It Came Out of the Sky." Not so grainy and gritty, but really pretty funny, lyrically. I have ideas for a story based on this song.  It might even make a good movie - especially if one were to develop the narrative and the various characters. It's a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end, with lots of potential for expansion. Maybe I'll do THIS for my Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month) in November... {#Mrgreen}

And what/whom do you think he's offended? I mean—besides you? And does the "blackface" remark also apply to, say, Eric Clapton for playing Robert Johnson, Led Zep for playing Howlin' Wolf, or The Beatles for playing The Marvelettes? Does it work the other way? Hendrix shouldn't have played "Hey, Joe," P.M. Dawn "Norwegian Wood," or Living Colour "Jumpin' Jack Flash?"

BTW, I was going to write—before tripping over this unfortunate comment—that Doug Clifford's drumming on this song is one of his finer moments.

If you're referring to the lawsuit Saul Zaentz filed against John for sounding like himself, I don't think it slowed him down any, and he ultimately won the case. Wikipedia provides a good summary:
The defendant Fogerty ultimately prevailed, when he showed that the two songs were whole, separate and distinct compositions. Bringing his guitar to the witness stand, he played excerpts from both songs, demonstrating that many songwriters (himself included) have distinctive styles that can make different compositions sound similar to less discerning ears.

After prevailing as defendant, Fogerty sued Zaentz for the cost of defending himself against the copyright infringement. In such (copyright) cases, prevailing defendants seeking recompense were bound to show that the original suit was frivolous or made in bad faith. Fogerty v. Fantasy became precedent when the Supreme Court (1993) overturned lower court rulings and awarded attorneys' fees to Fogerty, without Fogerty having to show that Zaentz's original suit was frivolous.
I love the bit about "less discerning ears."

Provincial PC think, if I take your comment literally. MinMan, it would expand your horizons to get out and spend some time in the smaller corners of these United States. CCR is beautifully mining the feel of swamp pop, but that has nothing to do with race. Meet me in Breaux Bridge. Over a plate of crawfish etoufee, you can try to guess the ethnic background of the next dozen people who walk in. It's a beautifully stirred melting pot in my home nape 'O the woods, and wonderfully soulful sounds come from musicians of every shade. There's one (Sonny Landreth) coming up next.

"Born on the bayou" Live by John Fogerty

"Born On The Bayou" Live 1969 by Creedence Clearwater Revival (for colletion)

"John Fogerty looks like he weighs about 155 or 160 pounds right here. I sure has a hell of set of lungs and voice for a lightweight and tremendous energy. I don't know how his vocal cords hold up. "   imjustpassinthru

 "CCR were never underrated. Its my understanding that they are one of the alltime greats and they are looked upon that way. And I believe they trully are. Beatles overrated is the silliest statement you will make. Just because you don't understand them, or don't like them in anyway, does not mean they were overrated. John Fogerty claims they were an inspiration for CCR. The Beatles were the most innovative band to ever walk the planet. listen to every album. "   AusBeatle

"Hey, is that Jesus on the drums? :) I'll never get tired of these guys! Rock on! "  Elphalpo1

"saw him last year live in calgary AB, I think I paid $50 for a ticket, mid section. He put on a 2 1/2 hour show NON STOP, like a 20 year old. I remember it well as he played "when im 64" because it was coincidently his 64th that day too. One of (if not) the best concert ive ever been seen. "   howsitgoingeh1

The fact that I could probably have done everything else (yes, including the cowbell) pretty much as well as was done on this recording just shows what a great, timely singer/songwriter John Fogerty was.

I was just thinking a few songs ago how Mark Knopfler pretty much was Dire Straits. Similarly, John Fogerty was Credence.
