Let's take a ride to the seaside
We can go out swimming in the high tide
Just wear your shorts and your long hair
Don't forget the lawn chair
Everybody's gone to the movies
Everybody's gone and it’s groovy
They went to the one about the big war
I didn't, I'd seen it before
I guess I'm taking my chances
Giving up the ring, throwing in the gloves
I guess I'm taking my chances
Trading in my things, for a couple wings, on a little white dove
And one big love, one big love
Everybody do like a monkey
If you want to go on and be funky
No need to talk like a hero
Talk a walk and count down to zero
No sense defending your honour
Just go on and kiss him if you want to
Everything before is gone
Or is going somewhere
I guess I'm taking my chances
Giving up the ring, throwing in the gloves
I guess I'm taking my chances
Trading in my things, for a couple wings, on a little white dove
And one big love, one big love
I don't know where we are and I don't care
And now we're out of gas and riding on air
And one big love, one big love
Everybody run till you're flying
Touch a star without even trying
Everybody's swinging from the big star
Everybody's riding in the cool car
Let's take a ride to the seaside
We can go out swimming in the high tide
Everybody do like a monkey
Everybody go on and be funky
Everybody go on and be funky
Let's take a ride to the seaside
Let's take a ride to the seaside
Let's take a ride to the seaside
Let's take a ride to the seaside

| ozzie1313 | Posted: Feb 09, 2013 - 15:34 Solid song, but more Cheryl Crowesque than Patty Griffin, lyrics, tune, singing style. |
| BazH | Posted: Jan 23, 2013 - 10:04 I like Patty Griffin but this album and song are not her best IMHO. |

Hard to believe she has "better" stuff than this. What do you all recommend?? Ditto re discovering her here. As for recommendations: just click on "Patty Griffin" in the now-viewing bar to get a list of most of her better output. Personally, my favorites are Change and Mad Mission. |
| RKeaton (South of Paradise) | Posted: Mar 23, 2012 - 18:05 Super tune. I love hearing her with all plugged in and playing loud. Wish she'd do it more. |

But her other work is so incredible, so 'stop what you're doing and just listen' amazing, this suffers by comparison. Can you tell I'm a fan of Ms. Griffin? | UhLain | Posted: Sep 07, 2011 - 11:41 150,000% agree. I *love* "Little God". This is the first concert I went to by myself after my divorce. It was a "I can do this by myself" moment. Very necessary and empowering. Nerubo wrote: One of my absolute favorites. When I heard this song, I had never heard any other Patti Griffin. Now that I have, I'm even more impressed with her - it shows her range that she can sing a more pop-like song like this and then bust loose on a raw in-your-face song like "Change" or "Little God". |

| amoreena (west whatnot) | Posted: Jul 06, 2011 - 17:32 Patty sings beside Robert Plant on his Band of Joy tour and he introduced her as "the best singer in America." The two of them together were truly amazing. Listen to this lady. Robert says so, and I believe. |

| fredriley (Nottingham, UK) | Posted: Dec 14, 2010 - 03:55 A fine song, with bang-on lyrics: make love, not aggro. The album's pretty damn good too, the rocky bits at least - I'm not so keen on the country stuff, but I guess she needs to keep her feet in both camps. 7 from the Nottingham jury doing like the monkey. Ook ook! |

Unfortunately, it's a little tricky to get a copy - try the web. The opening track is "Little God" which plays frequently on RP. Oh, yes, also contains "Boston" which proves that Patty can rock. "Mary" off "Flaming Red" is poignant to the point of hearthbreak. |
