Oh, shut up. You have a few bouncy-happy songs in your "9" list. Then again, your idea of bouncy and happy is probably not the same as mine, but THE BEACH BOYS? Onny thing bouncyhappier than that would be Katrina and the Waves. (And I like "Walking on Sunshine," thankyouverymuch.) Also - take into consideration the year this song was released. It was before the loss of innocence, the meth problem, metal-detectors in schools, strip-searches at airports, and all manner of other stuff into which I don't want to delve here.

Still, you've got a hell of a great selection of stuff that you rated "10." Sorry you don't like Buddy Holly, but even if you can't change your mind, I hope you'll remember that he was a pioneer of the music you're listening to today. He took risks, fought hard for his music, and left a legacy. If for no other reason, ya gotta admire him for that.

I love how people take portions of this song and apply it to their lives throughout time. I took the song in its entirety and applied it to my life (yes, my life was that insane), but now, just a few lines seem to fit where I am now. Who knew that Jackson Browne would be such a visionary? Amazing that an entire song could be segregated and applied to so many individual circumstances...

Jackson Browne will always be one of the first artists who springs to mind when someone asks me, "Who were your biggest influences?"

What, exactly, constitutes an "old codger" in your opinion, Sir? I just turned 55 and I love this music. I love most of what RP plays. If that makes me an "old codger," then by god, I'll raise that flag proudly. Take your youth and shove it. (In a nice way, of course - us "old codgers" still remember manners.)
