I have my appointment scheduled for the end of next month. Hopefully, this will be my victory story too, and I can get on with my work pain-free. Thanks again, everyone. (And thanks to my PT friend who recommended it)

Thank you, everyone. I'm going to see about getting some cortisone—and although I'll really take a huge hit financially....I'll see if I can combine a weekend with some weekdays to give it total rest. The tricky part.....I have no health insurance...so hopefully these doctors will work with me in installment-payments. Save the lectures. If I had the least little bit to contribute to self-insurance, believe me, I would. But being single and living off one's own small business....well, I just can't pull money out of the woodwork, you know? Hopefully, I can get some within the next year, if business is good.

Here is some data for ya... of course, I am no doctor, and my specialty is washing feet...
a corticosteroid injection is an accepted treatment option for medial and lateral epicondylitis... olecranon bursa aspiration and injection are useful when that bursa is inflamed... olecranon— of or pertaining to the bony tip of the elbow; in fact, it is the near end of the ulna, the bone in the forearm, that forms the pointed portion of the elbow... the triceps muscle tendon of the back of the arm attaches to the olecranon... "bursa" is the Greek word for "a wine skin..." a bursa is a closed fluid-filled sac that functions to provide a gliding surface to reduce friction between tissues of the body... when the bursa becomes inflamed, the condition is known as bursitis... corticosteroids, often just called steroids, are anti-inflammatory drugs... most are synthetic forms of cortisone, a hormone naturally made in your adrenal glands... these include: prednisone (sold under many brand names, such as Deltasone and Sterapred), methylprednisolone (Medrol), prednisolone (Prelone, Pediapred), dexamethasone (Decadron, Hexadrol), and hydrocortisone (Acticort, Cortef)... the degree to which negative side effects occur is usually dose-dependent— the higher the daily dose and the longer the period of time you take the drug, the greater your risk of side effects... if your dose is low, your risk of serious side effects is quite small... after elbow injection you should do the following— remain in a supine position for one to two minutes... be monitored for adverse reactions for 30 minutes... avoid strenuous activity for 48 hours... treat steroid flare with ice and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs... schedule follow-up within three weeks...
romeo, Greetings That assumes inflammation is the genesis of the discomfort. If it is, steroidal therapies are often helpful, along with common sense therapies: rest, ice, etc.. But if the problem is structural, greater intervention is called for. Bone spurs, bone chips, a slightly torn or stretched ulnar tendon, a slight separation between ulnar tendon at the point of insertion and attachment to the olecranon and so on. mk

EDIT: Before any other other unrelated advice comes in, I thought I should let you know that stretching, triggerpoint, icing, heat, and Alleve are not correcting the problem. And no—I don't think I want to try accupuncture, either. Alexandra, Good evening! My advice would be to consult a physician...chronic pain is a sign worth paying attention to, especially if conventional therapies are not bringing relief or noted change. Last summer, I was dealing with an increasingly weak right shoulder, such that I had to curtail weight training and martial arts*addictions I struggled to put aside*. So, I tried rest, ice, Alleve...nothing. Finally, I sought medical advice...turns out a bone spur in my neck was rubbing a nerve as it exited my spinal chord (between 4th and 5th cervical vertebrae). Following further advice, I turned to a chiropracter. After just one session, I had immediate relief. After 3 sessions a week for a month, I am now going once a month for maintenance. My shoulder never felt better, I'm back to lifting weights and practicing martial arts and I now know why I was regularly turning my head until my neck 'cracked' and I got temporary relief...I was trying to relieve a pain that my body was telling me had its point of origin in my neck. mk

ScottFromWyoming wrote: my 2¢ is that every time you flex that elbow you're re-injuring the inflamed area. Stretching, heat, triggerpoint would all seem to be not advised. Ice, Alleve and immobilization (when possible) should be the first course of action but if you're not getting results, then yes, I think you do need to do something (i.e.: cortisone) to prevent the constant re-injury of the area. I believe ice and immobilization will still be required until the area is fully healed. Mostly immobilization. I understand you need to work but the other hours of the day, you should try a sling or bandage to keep it in a comfortable position and try to avoid bending your wrist and shoulder too. This will help the joint heal with a minimum of re-injury.
The physical therapy (stretching, etc.) should wait until the pain subsides, then you can go on a regimen of stretching and strengthening to help prevent this from happening.
Good advice. Can you take some time off to let it heal? I know that's tough, but you probably are just re-inflaming it every time you use it. Chronic inflammation in a joint can be bad too, so you might be doing harm by not just taking a break for a while. I know a couple folks with back problems similar to mine who had these injections in the spine. Both were highly pleased with the results. No personal experience, though. Hope you feel better soon Lexie.

What is the timeline for someone with 95% blockage on one side and 100% blockage on the other side of their heart? No treatment is being pursued other than one additional stint was placed yesterday... I assume on the 100% side. And yes, I know its short. I am wondering if there are any of our medical peeps around who know anything about this. Hours? Days? Weeks? Just some morbid curiosity.
