A) Trump playing the hand dealt him and fighting fire with fire; rhetoric du jour. Nothing to lose and everything to win. And it worked. Now at this point and place, few want to listen to someone speak well of Trump regardless of merit. So that is why I have little to say on the matter for now. Just been commenting on the climate.
B) There was a choice of only two to pick from that could win. Priorities became based upon the choices offered and who was for what. Trump was for more things that I want to see happen than Clinton was. 1st though and most important and clearly where the two differed the most was the border, national sovereignty and overall world view. Those principles have not been abandoned.
C) Yes, I have railed against our POTUS and government officials coming almost exclusively from the Ivy League. Wharton, while Ivy League by definition, is different (in my mind) when compared to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Georgetown, Columbia, Dartmouth and the others. Wharton is a business school first and foremost and not unknown to me having lived in Philly. A bit broader based in the acceptance of more ideologies tolerated in the school as a whole. Its almost like the ugly redhaired step child of the Ivy League.
Some cabinet picks have raised an eyebrow. My question to myself on these is, is he putting a leash on them or turning them lose. I do hope the former. Have to wait and see. And that is what I will do.
I would add to what SFW said: I have heard you rail over and over in the past against those taking and those supporting an ends—justify-the-means approach.
A) Yet, nary a word from you about that during Trump's campaign during which he engaged in rather inflammatory tactics (and that is putting it mildly).
B)Over the years here, you have staked out a lot of line-in-the-sand principles, but it often is difficult to understand which of those are still important to you and which have seemingly been abandoned.

you know, it's funny. i've thought this same thing. i remember. and i see it the same way this time around, too. i just steer clear as much as possible. but boy, you're right, it does get old. i've had to unfollow some peeps in that other place.

the system has conditioned and convinced people (most of them good folks) to suspend logic and reason and vote along party/tribal lines because that's the only path to victory

So you feel like you're being attacked? You're right; I don't care. You voted for the guy, who is, in the jargon of the day, deplorable. I don't hear many people who voted for him also saying jack shit about the deplorable stuff he's said, and done, and is doing. As long as he gives you what you want, you will turn your head when it comes to all of this other crap. I know this isn't you. I know you think this is as creepy as hell. But you put up with it, and more, and worse, as long as you get something in return. Maybe I'm being hypocritical, I'll have to think about that (thought about it: no, I have been pretty consistently angry with Obama for his not extracting us from wars and getting us into more of them). But that's all policy stuff. You're being attacked on two fronts: policy-related things (Build a Wall) and just general shitheel behavior. Way back during the election season of 2008, I remember being taken to task by BHD over my use of the argument that anyone who supports Obama must be ______ or ______ . She spoke directly and publicly to me about how such blanket statements were both wrong and offensive. I took it to heart and realized that it is indeed wrong and offensive to go down that kind of road and ever since then have avoided (as much as possible) deliberately using all inclusive statements that would suggest that anyone who _____ must be _____ . IIRC, I thanked her for bringing it to my attention and proceeded since to try and modify my arguments to dealing with a subject as much as possible sticking to the subject or public figure and avoiding including their supporters in broad brushed descriptions of the subject at hand. When speaking in terms of D's or R's, the subject was regarding the party leadership and not in terms of the rank and file (aka you and me).
Here we are 8 years later and there are constant and plenty of unbridled statements about anyone who supports Trump is _____ and _____ and worse. Fine be that way. I'm sure that it makes you (who ever the shoe fits) feel better. But it will not get any one who is being attacked to try and see things your way. But if you are going down that road, I bet you really don't care about that anyway.
So have fun. Just remember that in doing it this way you are attacking people personally and in very offensive ways. I have tremendously thick skin. But I can only speak for myself about how thick my hide is. I am speaking more for those who might take personal offense than myself. In expressing these thoughts this way, you are building walls and burning bridges between yourself and them. Someday you might need 'them'. Or maybe you won't. But to dismiss someone based upon one aspect of their whole is pretty remarkable. Just don't expect their help, sympathy or empathy when you should stumble and find out that you are not invincible and self reliant as you think you are.
In another way to put it. I know some Deadheads who voted for Trump. Go figure.
