As long as people insist that they’re separate in some way - not unique, but not a part of the “mainstream” - then they see themselves as either above (the chosen) or below (always been on the bottom). You know, you don’t have to behave today the way you behaved yesterday. Yesterday is an interesting story, but it’s fine to set the book down and deal with today on a blank page.

All Europeans today are a mix. The genetic recipe for a typical European would be roughly equal parts Yamnaya and Anatolian farmer, with a much smaller dollop of African hunter-gatherer. But the average conceals large regional variations: more “eastern cowboy” genes in Scandinavia, more farmer ones in Spain and Italy, and significant chunks of hunter-gatherer DNA in the Baltics and eastern Europe.

“To me, the new results from DNA are undermining the nationalist paradigm that we have always lived here and not mixed with other people,” Gothenburg’s Kristiansen says. “There’s no such thing as a Dane or a Swede or a German.” Instead, “we’re all Russians, all Africans.”

There is another Rpeep who once mentioned that they were descendants of Mayflower arrivals.

It is one thing to be a descendent of the Founders, but to a descendent of the ancestors of the Founders is even worse in the current political climate.

Note the contempt illustrated by islander numerous times.  I am sure that he would approve of the defacing of the statue of G Washington on the campus of, wait for it ... George Washington University.

As far as I know the statue still has all the shit on it.  It has lasted well over a week.

And let us not forget, staying on topic to the thread ... Trump accurately predicted this would happen.  {#Cowboy}

Again - since you are slow on the uptake: merit based is fine if we all start from the same place. Support is fine too, because I want to live in a pleasant society, where we don't let our brothers starve in the streets when there is no famine.

And sorry, can't keep track of your entitlements. You have birthright access to California surf spots?  Or is it just cut any line you want if there are immigrants ahead of you?

I want everyone to have the same opportunity and the same level of support.  Which idea has more basis in merit?

They want that because that is where they had freedom to exercise their unfair advantage.  This country needs to be great again. We need to go back to the place where we shared the largess to help those that were less fortunate. Where we believed in a public common that we all paid for. Where we had facilities and resources for people that were crazy and or homeless and or drug addicted (we could probably stand to improve those facilities, but they were better than a tent under the freeway). Now we just give breaks to billionaires who don't need them so they can horde more instead of giving back.  They have no intention of working together, just taking anything that is offered and then grabbing what they can. They have no intention of playing fair or working in good faith. If it's not their game, they don't want to play.

You're getting very close to the heart of the matter. They aren't pro democracy, they are pro 'whatever keeps them in the superior position'. They never really believed all that 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' stuff, but it was a fanciful yarn they could tell while sitting comfortably on the platform everyone else was trying to pull up on. But now that others have figured it out, and are starting to make their own way, they are threatened and want to 'go back to the old ways'. They want that because that is where they had freedom to exercise their unfair advantage.  This country needs to be great again. oh jeepers, Kurtster. I live next to a judge. My son is studying law. I even did a year of law myself back in the day.
If Trumps gets off the hush money case for due process, good for him. Doesn't change a thing about the substance of the case for you or me, which is what I was referring to:
Try harder to convince me, this guy is a good guy who has the best interests of democracy  at heart, you know, observing the law, upholding the constitution, fighting the good fight against tyrants and mobsters, upholding individual rights, that kind of thing.

For me the evidence is overwhelming that he is doing his best to damage faith in the U.S. political system and foment civil unrest, maybe even, who knows, an insurrection or two.. which is right in line with the FSB playbook to undermine democracy. His ruse to withhold U.S. aid for Ukraine sealed the deal for me. The guy is a traitor and a national threat, and whether you like it or not, he's working in the best interests of Russia. Just like Tucker Carlson is now doing, after getting booted from Fox News.

Thankfully, enough Republican congressmen, even Mike Johnson,  understood this in time and came to reason before Ukraine fell.
But anyone still supporting Trump now is a traitor to democracy in my view. It's pretty black and white.

So you want Trump to rule? Fine, but please pin the badge of feudalism right next to whatever MAGA merch you care to wear. You are free to support whatever political outfit you wish, just don't try adorning yourself with "constitution", "democracy" or even anything vaguely related to what the War of Independence was all about, because you are in boots and all behind a wannabe king/dictator and seem hell bent on taking the nation straight back to the Dark Ages.

When it comes down to it, people like you are fine calling yourself democratic but only when your party gets to call the shots., but you all gol bat-shit crazy when some other party gets to say something. You might want to do a little soul-searching on that one day.
