Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night
And wouldn't you love to love her?
Takes to the sky like a bird in flight
And who will be her lover?

All your life you've never seen
A woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?

She is like a cat in the dark
And then she is the darkness
She rules her life like a fine skylark
And when the sky is starless

All your life you've never seen
A woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
Will you ever win?
Will you ever win?

Goodbye Christine...Thank you for the music...
Mick and John just own this.  Perfect time signature to frame Stevie's exquisite vocals.
Good Tune!

Great album, made through break ups and lots of coke
On the album cover -
Fleetwood (Drums) . . . . and Mac (Bass).

Showcase for Mick Fleetwood. Timekeeper extraordinaire.
Now that I don't have this song foisted on me every ten minutes, I've got back to liking it again. It's a damn good song.
Odd that I haven't commented on this 10-rated track yet....having met a gal named Rhiannon at a park way back in my early 20s, and scoring points for knowing (and having available to play) the song, and the deeper meaning...well....yeah....LLRP!!
Tho great, the 1976 live version is the one true version of this song.

Oh wow! So does this mean that as long as I keep streaming now, I'll be one song ahead of the website?

I really enjoyed older FM albums, as well - but this album and others have a totally different meaning in my life.  When I hear these songs I'm instantly jetted back to a great group of friends who loved to party and enjoy life.  We never sat still, and the FM music of the time helped carry us through many great times.  None of us really cared who was in the band, and we had great parties!

So, the rest of the members of FM were victims of Nicks and Buckingham?!  I don't buy it. Band members change, bands change, instruments, styles and PEOPLE change. Some people like change and some don't. Some (like me) just think of it as different and appreciate each for what it is.  Your labeling things "commercial crap" or whatever is immaterial. We get it, you don't like it so get over it and move on.

Agreed.
The Oh-So-Tiresome "I knew them before they were popular" routine.
Whatever, dude. I can't think of another band in history that changed personnel as frequently as Fleetwood Mac.
So every single lineup was great until Buckingham/Nicks came along and "destroyed the band"? Oh, Puh-leez.

No one made music like Fleetwood Mac. They didn't fit in a particular genre of rock. They imitated no one.
But most unusual, no one imitated them. I can't think of anyone else to put in the same category.

Yes, we did, at least in my young engineering universe.  That was THE snare you wanted for rock.  It *was* new, at least to those who cared about such things and gave rise to the excess (of which I am still subject to) of taking forever to get a drum sound. Miking individual drums was not new, nor were good snare sounds, but Keith Olsen's was just epic in some way; we figured out that the midrange might have been pulled out at a specific frequency, or that was one theory.  Of course, that was not the whole story; a drum sound is complex and relies on drummers, drum heads, tuning, drum sets, mics, and on and on.  I've never analyzed why we wanted it, just took it as gospel, and it was the fad of the 70s (and long since), but you have me thinking now why it gave such pleasure to us and was the gold standard in those years.  If you couldn't approximate that sound, you felt as if your career was doomed.  I think the jazz crowd had a much easier and less naval-gazing time of it!  I guess a lot of it was following Alan Parsons' careful isolations, removing the room from the equation, and then adding an 'environment' back in.  Or something like that...but great topic!

I remember rocking out to Fleetwood in my parents basement while lifting weights using Arnold's Guide to Bodybuilding. Thinking about it also reminds me of the Commodore 64 in the corner and online discussion bulletin boards (often dominated by Trekies). Sounds like an odd convergence, but totally ordinary in the mid-to-late 80s. And at the center of my musical world at the time (calling me out of the self-absorbing doldrums of teenage angst) was Stevie.

The one that started it all—for that version of the band. The first time I heard it, I was blow away. Blown completely away when I learned it was Fleetwood Mac.

I may have said this before about a song or two, but there are a small number of songs (perhaps not THAT small, but small in relation to the total size of the playlist on RP) that, while they perhaps ARE way overplayed commercially in the world 'out there', are still wonderful, excellent tunes by great artists of one stripe or another. This (and many, many songs by Fleetwood Mac), to me, fall into this category. Additionally, I think that occasionally playing a song like this on RP actually serves to enhance a tune that might have been otherwise considered dull or ordinary, overplayed and milquetoast if heard on the freeway or while taking the kids to school on FM-schlock radio. If a song like Rhiannon had never made it big commercially, most of the 'tuned in' world would consider it an exceptional, wonderful song, the more special also for not being so over commercialized and exposed. The music is still great, and RP dusts it's music off like a little gem to show off, even the Hope Diamonds that everyone has seen. Just a thought.

Having been born unto the mid 80s, my first exposure to FM was through the parents' record collections! (I was transfixed by the cover for Tango in the Night...) By the way, I've uploaded "Sisters of the Moon" a few days ago - it's currently under review on the LRC (shame it wasn't insta-added).

Good point, domine-astronomy - the world does NOT revolve around me.  {#Lol}  The other Mac songs you mention are also pretty mainstream.  Still, I can listen to "Go Your Own Way" without diving for the volume control.  I hope "Sisters..." makes it onto the playlist.
