There's a howlin at my window, baby
I hear him closin in
That green-eyed jackal's got the scent
Knows I'll let him in
He slinks in by me at the fire
More bitter than the cold
And it's a rage as old as Hades
That'll sputter on these coals
I'm callin on the Furies, to let the toast begin
I'm roasting on the spit of love again
I never have believed you
But I stick around for more
Somethin bout that hollow in your eyes
There's a darkness at the core
Well, it's got me slowly turnin
I'm basting on the bone
I'm skewered like some drunken fool
In juices all my own
Callin the Furies' carrion choir
Singin me back upon the pyre
I'm roasting on that spit of love again
You can call it what you want
But it's lyin just the same
There's no mercy in these ashes, baby
When your love's a cryin shame
And they're howlin in moonlight, baby
They're here to call my bluff
They're wonderin if there'll ever come a day
When I'll have finally had enough
I'm callin on the Furies, to let the toast begin
I'm roasting on that spit of love again

Always has been... As long as I've been aware of her! And, still holds it pretty damn well, for mid-70's! Doesn't seem her voice has lost much, either! She can still belt 'em out with the best of 'em! I wonder.... Like the collab of R.Plant with A Krause... I bet Plant & Raitt could make some good tunes together, too!

Miss Bonnie pays blues, but they're thoroughly modern, and this song doesn't follow the traditional blues chord progression.   I will ALWAYS volunteer to be roasted on a spit of love for her!
organ sounds a bit like the Doors

Reminds me of this The Doors song...

Whoa!  That makes me feel old.  A quick check of Wikipedia will give you a rundown of her many accomplishments including a Grammy for Album of the Year as well as her induction into the Rock and Roll HOF.

One of my all-time  favorite songs.  So sexy, oh, yeah, this is how it feels to be truly in love and making love!!

Have seen her about 4 times (once w Little Feat at 5 feet @BillG pls play more little Feat!). She’s amazing. And this is a gem
Holy God, first day of the New Year. --Then this music I hear while looking at photos of the Hippie Trail, of people in Goa with sad fates. ---The music is mega. And I wonder why it has passed me by for so many years. ---Be happy---- what a guitar
Excellent!
this sounds like a Staples song

Bonnies one of those artists I've  really followed. And yes, she's that good!!

I don't normally care for Bonnie Riatt, but this is undeniably excellent. Powerful, moving, and connected directly to that part of you where soul meets body.

Yeah, those licks are hers too - not a sideman person. There's not a lot of singers who play lead - but several are women.

Never heard this before, WOW.  Great song.

It's 2020 and this go round the segue is from Bonnie Raitt "Spit of Love" to Jeff Beck's "Freeway Jam". Just noticing.
Bonnie is one of those artists I've never really followed, but every time I hear her I think "She's damn good".

No offense but you can't really rock-out to Bonnie. Turning it up to "5" is about as loud as it needs to be.

Okay Boomer.
Was gonna post about how great this is.  But then I saw the last post and just can't add much.  This is one of her best, and it should be (will be) way more highly rated eventually, even if it is pretty standard blues.  The rhythm is new and what an amazing blues player she is.
This song is a Gem! Her tone is insane. She's gonna wake up Lowell and kick Sonny's ass with that sound!
{#Dancingbanana_2}Her band is fantastic too!
She's very talented.  But too many Bonnie songs sound the same.  Not my cuppa.
Her voice throws me into a disheveled mess.
This song has got to be one of the sexiest ever....oohh baby!
She's the real deal, all right... When I saw her at Red Rocks with Stevie Ray back in the mid-'80s, she stole the show. She still sizzles!
Always such great singers and players with Bonnie. The arrangements, engineering, all of it just top notch in Miss Bonnie's circle of music makers.

Ownage! Love it. 9 out of the gate.

Just checked out this clip on YouTube - her voice is still just great. {#Bananajam}{#Notworthy}

I suddenly have the urge for some BBQ.
Just read the lyrics.  There's a blues lyrics, then there is BR 'splainin' it...ah..more vividly!
Somehow I missed this album. This sounds like Bonnie at her best! Nice juicy bluesy groove. Brings to mind her "Feeling of Falling".
Her voice and my ears were made as a matched set.
Bonnie's Boss.   i like the sound... up loud... between Freeway Jam and How Soon Is Now.
Roasting on the spit of love??
Man, who came up with those lyrics?

If it were love, she wouldn't spit.  Sorry, couldn't help myself.   {#Redface}
Not sure what I like most about Bonnie Raitt: her voice, soul, or slide guitar playing.

I'll bob you on my spit of love duck, who's with me for a spit roast?

Haven't y'all heard?  Fifty is the new thirty!

Bill should play 'Lover's Spit' by Broken Social Scene next.{#Roflol}

I know, but I amuse myself.
Sexy stuff.
Great example of a producer's role in helping an artist find their voice. She published a huge amount of work before she teamed up with Don Was, but his careful ear and appreciation of her art made her a household name.
Don't know much of her work, but this song's great!
Nice segue from "Freeway Jam,"—another example of minimal, melodic guitar work, only this time Bonnie on slide.

Bonnie Raitt w. Crosby, Stills and Nash - "Love Has No Pride" Live (2009)

"25th Anniversary The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Concert at Madison Square Garden - 2009/10/29 & 30"

"Art is Resistance"

Just saw her in concert last Saturday night in St. Augustine, FL; she can tear up a guitar!  Very gracious and sincere person on stage.  Never really knew much of her body of work, but I was mega impressed with her guitar work.

This woman has had a strong voice for years, and she always has a tight funk band behind her.  Love that sloppy slide guitar.
I love the way she makes me that slide groan and wail.

Bonnie Raitt - "I Can't Make You Love Me" Live
this is the original  "I Can't Make You Love Me" here with Bruce Randall Hornsby on piano.

"this song always brings tears in my eyes...
knowing you're in love w/ someone you cant have because it's just very wrong...and having just one chance to hold him is enough to treasure it for a lifetime...all i have are chances or maybe just a chance."

That's a great band behind her! Great song.

Coming from someone who has not much cared for Bonnie Raitt over the years, this is really good. Possibly seeing her in Philadelphia around 1973 so drunk she could not even bother to play more than lazy chords colored my perceptions. All is forgiven, Bonnie.

Seeing her now is much different.  Of course the crowd is a lot grayer and a little more sober also. {#Lol}

Damn. This, right now, is fine. Makes me want to go spend some money. Naysayers reconsider, recant, repent.

Love the fiery grind of this tune.
Bonnie has honed her grit and authenticity to a fine point.
She knows pain.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!! An absolute 10. What a piece of art. Amazing...
Yes, Bonnie is the real deal. Saw her with Stevie Ray at Red Rocks back in 86 I think it was. Dang she's still mighty good, too...
She played Telluride B-Grass last summer. WOW! What a woman. She melts me.

"Riders On The Storm", Had some of the cheapest drug inspired lyrics know to man. This song can't even be compared.

Well, thank GOD you are in the minority. Bonnie is a goddess! When YOU can sing AND play phenomenal slide, maybe you'll have a clue as to just how talented she is. You're missing out, Ray....
What a great way to start a Monday! Great tune.
Such a cool tune - very cool slide. I love the production on this one too. Bonnie is gold!
Sweet!
Hmm,...Bonnie Raitt + Psych Furs = Spit of Love Spit Love... Aww spit, I LOVE this!
What a voice... and her playing is truly amazing.
I've been a Bonnie fan since her first (self-titled) album came out (in 1971?). She has never failed to amaze me with her incredible slide playing. I think her voice just gets better with age and maturity.
Her wailing, screaming slide work made me stop what I was doing. Strong song, passionate vocal and riveting guitar. Raitt is one of those rare Pop Geniuses.

Are you naive enough to think that every song was created in a vacuum, without any outside influences at all? I think that's pretty impossible in both art and music.

The slide work is excellent - haunting and very very cool...
This song really works following Morphine's Whisper. Nice Bill.
That\'s hot. Dot
Bonnie\'s got magic fingers as well a voice!
Who ever gave this song a 1  needs to back away from the CRACK PIPE and switch to beer, and not that cheap stuff :D
What a lovely, mellow, soulful song. Love that sound. Especially the distorted(?) keyboard in combination with the slide guitar.
