Grey is the color of ambiguity!
I'll never forget seeing the Dead at the Oakland Colosseum for their first show after Jerry's coma. Of course , they opened with Touch of Grey. Everyone lost their minds and I thought the roof was going to blow off. You could hardly hear the band during the first half of this song. A very memorable show for so many reasons. I miss Jerry.

It is a great song. Love the arrangement and all the players are having a great time playing it.
I had a touch of grey years ago. Now I have a touch of black in the beard and scalp.

I, too, have followed them from the beginning—in fact from the time they were The Warlocks, and regardless of what you think of its place in the greater canon of their work, this is a pretty cool song. Garcia's solo could serve as an object lesson to beginning guitarists on how to build your solo around the song's melody.

Good tune! I am not a Dead fan, even though I have seen them live, 3 times in the early 70s.
Only dead song that sounds slightly better recorded than live. Full goose bumps on that lead every time. Was a tremendous help turning my wife into a rapid deadhead. So, yeah, fantastic song.

Those high harmonies are spot on.
The song that connected the Dead to non boomers and non Deadheads before the end, so kinda poignant.

The previous Radiators's song, from a band I really known nothing about, called to mind the Dead, then this comes on. Not the selection I would choose, but something of the vibe must be connecting across the ether. And, no, I must object to calling this the worst Dead song ever. They did worse, but although this was a bit out of their groove (or rut, depending on when in the 90s one is referring to), it's pretty good.

This is probably the first Dead song I ever heard. I was a young child and it was on commercial radio. I remember being slightly freaked out by the band's name. Not until years later would I find my self dancing like a lunatic, looking for a miracle, dining on the finest dirty hippie parking lot fare, and enjoying the hell out of myself in the final years of the Dead's tours. I had a great time at many shows and feel blessed to have enjoyed it before Jerry was gone. "Grateful Dead!" is now a joyful phrase and this song is the perfect exclamation point.

I have uploaded several live tunes (ones regarded as some of their best) but Rebecca has rejected them all. I don't bother anymore.
I loved this song before its commercial release. Of course I went through the anathema phase with it as well. Now I've learned to distinguish the song I like from the phase of the Dead's history that I could have done without.

That extra song is "My Brother Esau" which was the B side of the single "Touch of Grey",. It's a great song but you're right it's probably not worth the extra $24. I still have that single somewhere, I wonder if its worth something...

I remember this video from my childhood, and I still love the song. I was probably four years old at the time, but it's funny how these things make an impact. I remember the skeletons playing, and being freaked out by them, but still loving the music. Is it sad that one of my early memories is of MTV? It's my generation, I guess-- although MTV these days is awful. I also remember a video that was mostly claymation being played quite a bit at that time, and loving that too.

I have never seen the use of the word \"pop\" as a dirty word so much as on RP. There is nothing wrong with pop in essence. It just means the music/lyrics appeal to wide segment of society and, as far as I can tell, that\'s a novel idea -- inclusiveness. That being said, I will never be a fan of any Dead work, but much of it is tolerable (ah, tolerance -- also inclusive).

So when Jerry died, a deadhead died on the same day. Sadly, they both found themselves on the way to Hell. But at the gates of Hell, the Devil granted them each a final request. The Grateful Dead never where as big (leave alone the sort of institute they where in the States) in the Netherlands (the rest of the world?), so this one is far from being overplayed to me.
Nice to hear the Dead in this pop orientated way and notice they remained truthful to themselves.

Granted, this song has been beaten nearly to death by mainstream radio, but its still a fine example of the excellent musicianship of the Dead. The second and final time I saw them they opened with this song. That was a year before Jerry died.
