I just finished reading her memoirs, Last Chance Texaco, Chronicles of an American Troubadour.  What a unique woman and artist she is.  I found her story full of family frustrations, musical glories, and profound relationships.  The book is a real gem.

Agree. She got "mumbly" and you couldn't understand what she was singing, and the albums were too much of the same. I've tried a few times to go back and re-listen  to some of them, but could never get into those later albums, even the one Walter Becker produced.

This is one of my favorite Ricke Lee Jones tunes. I liked her unique style and have enjoyed many of her albums. Great dance tune.

How many breathy vocalists populated music in the last 20 years?  I swear I can't tell them apart.  Rickie Lee Jones' first album established her as a unique voice and that alone  makes her stand out of the crowd.

At first I was happy to hear Olivia Newton John on RP. But then I checked the info and... BAM, I learn something new. I was three when this song came out. Through no fault of my own, I heard about Olivia but not about Rickie Lee Jones. I blame this on Bill, he doesn't play her as often as she deserves.

Boggles the mind don't it?  One thing I didn't realize, Rickie's song "Easy Money" was first recorded by Lowell George of Little Feat for his first solo effort.  I've always thought of the lady as a feminine Tom Waits....which very well may be why the relationship didn't last (heh).  She was/is one of a kind....and that ain't necessarily a bad thang.....

i heard a story that while she was in the studio recording, some big type, like muddy waters or some such, who was in another studio, stopped by to listen to her, and commented that she had an amazing voice, even tho he couldn't understand a word she was saying. i have loved watching her career over the decades, and the styles of music she has explored. one of my all time faves.

Lest we forget, this was her debut album, with a sound that has been copied soooo much in the eighties. Thirty years ago, this was a pretty cool folk/jazz sound she created. And yes, I personally do like it, and most of her stuff.
