Jolie, jolie, pretty little thing
??.
All I want you to do is just be happy
And we went on a walk and we went on a hill
And come back up again, you know I will
Just to bring you the mail, to me it's just another hill
Jolie, jolie, dancing love
All I want you to do is just be happy, be happy
Do you want me to fly to heaven's gate?
?I won't wait
I'll go right away cuz to me it's just another day
Jolie, jolie, dancing
All I want you to do is just be happy, even happier than that

Do you want me to stop every time I start?
When I kiss your lips and you break my heart
But I do this to me it's just a little kiss
It's just a little kiss
Uh, huh, stay right there on the "A"
Yeah baby stay there
Oh daddy, you can only do the best you can
I just want you to be happy, eh

the percussion is sounding like a Neville assist on a Lanois tune,  The Maker

100% agreement here, doing the +1 today to join you in Nineland for this steamy hot number.  LLRP!!
I love RLJ but this is a very, very long way from her best.  Ordinary blues shuffle.

The “Duchess” of Cool! Met her @ the Troubadour when I first arrived in El Lay with “Chuckie!” Yes, he existed!
Second line is 'Berce moi toute la nuit' or 'rock me all night'.

Great shuffle, great sound.
I love earlier RLJ (Pirates, The Magazine) but this song is just boring - derivative bluesy chug-a-lug.
Love laid back Ricki Lee Jones, cool, groovy, jazzy and great rythums! You go girl!!

But there is a melody underlying this whole thing that is VERY reminiscent of Howlin' Wolf's Killing Floor

Both songs are basic I-IV-V blues progressions, but I don't hear much similarity in the melodies..

Do you spend a lot of time thinking about that?
Imagine the Neville's without balls
Reminds me (in a good way) of Van Morrison's Cleaning Windows. Both of them can really do the rhythm shuffle -- and a great band doesn't hurt! ;-)
a good song from a great album
"Corrine, Corrina"
I'm not going to copy that Jolie pic down there; it's huge. Pretty nice, though.

You're not crazy.  The underlying melody is essentially a I - IV - V, twelve-bar progression, used in thousands of blues, folk, pop, rock, and zydeco songs.

THAT MADE THIS SONG A WHOLE LOT BETTER!!!

In case you are wondering about the French in this song, jolie means ''pretty'' as in Elle est tres jolie (She is very pretty).
Her accent on the French phrases she sings is pas mal de tout! (not bad at all).

Sexy vocals...

I used to just love her, too.

So far everything I've heard by her is awful and nasty.  Feel free to give her a '1' for everything, I sure did.

Is that Leo Kottke playing guitar here? Sure sounds like his style. EDIT: I just checked out the album info and yes, indeed, it is Leo. Other songs on this album are accompanied by Brian Setzer and others... I might have to check it out.

Well, no one expects Rickie Lee to be all sweetness and light. I saw her perform earlier this year on the The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard tour, though, and she was pleasant and funny.

Yeah, well I'd lick her adenoids.

Glad I could help.

Adenoids.
So cool! Rickie olus chills me!
That's quite a set of singer/songwriters - love 'em or hate 'em, they're all distinctive. Rickie Lee Jones - Jolie Jolie Neko Case - Buckets of Rain Tracy Chapman - Let it Rain Madeleine Peyroux - California Raining
"even happier than that"
i wish rickie would've had her adenoids looked to...
Thanks for the Rickie!
My big brother put this on a mix tape for me some 10 years ago....it's so great to hear this on RP!
