I enjoyed this tune for what it is and in so doing gave no thought to what it is not. Nor did I feel compelled to compare it either critically or *gack* competitively to anything done by the Beatles as a group or to other band members' solo works.

On another note, that's Paul beatboxing on this tune innit? Who was the first to do that?
Edit: OK, technically not Beatboxing (Wikipedia), rather it's Vocal percussion (Wikipedia) of which Beatboxing is a subtype. And Paul was not the first to do it.

I have always thought what a shame that "Maybe I'm Amazed" didn't get done by the Beatles, it would have dwarfed any hit single that The Beatles did previously

The "Bowl of Cherries" album was unique as a low tech 'homemade' solo album with Paul playing all the instruments, and he didn't have to be a Beatle with all the expectations that entailed.  It was at at time when he was just enjoying a period of freedom from that fame, and his marriage and starting a family.  It was in a sense one his most authentic musical endeavors versus the commercial evolution of his solo career and formation of Wings after this.  If you listen to it all the way through and enjoy the photos it has a coherence and is almost a memoir type of vibe.  He even managed to produce a classic with 'Maybe I'm Amazed' among the other small personal songs .Not bad.
