Listening to subversively Christian music trying to pass itself off as relevant "alternative" pop always makes me feel like I've been robbed of minutes of my listening life that I'll never get back. Leave this stuff to the youth groups, RP.

I can understand and respect people who like "contemporary Christian music"... this song is well constructed, and sung well. Great groove... However, and this is my opinion, I find "contemporary Christian music" inherently obnoxious. I do praise RP for diversity however, so I give props for playing even this genre, even though it gets on my nerves.

I know one thing. I like this tune. Ooooooh yeaaaaaah

I LOVE RP because of the large selection of wonderful music heard here. Unfortunately, this song doesn't happen to belong in that category. Please do not play this again. It isn't musically impressive or interesting. Anyone who wants to listen to christian rock is more than welcome to go to any number of other sites that will cater to them. Oh, and as for the comment that buddism is ok, but christiantiy isn't... I don't even know where to start with this. This song talks about "He didn't die for nothing" and that is "The one thing that I know". It is this overt preaching that I don't need. I don't think you are going to find anything like that in these "new age" songs you speak of. Yes, the new age songs might be crap... but in general they have no lyrics with the exception of some chanting or vocal noises. And that other comment... "throwing in the devil is cool"... what the hell are you talking about? How much "devil music" do you hear on RP?

I'm a big Jars of Clay fan, although i don't think this is in the better half of their songs (although i still quite like it). "Furthermore", particularly the live stuff, is really excellent musicianship. They do a good show - i've gotten the chance to see them a few times now, in different settings, and they've really improved over time. Worlds Apart is an amazing song (although quite clearly Christian), as are Frail, Something Beautiful, and Dig (for the more generically spiritually inclined). I'd love to hear more JoC on RP. I'm a bit curious about the comments saying this song's lyrics weren't explicitly Christian, though - the "He didn't die for nothing" stuff made it pretty explicit to my ears. :-)

If you like this, make sure to check out their "from the studio from the stage" double cd...the version of Liquid on that is just amazing.

This song brings me back to the very core of my music listening years. That mid-90's rock is untouchable. I love it. Good voices.

wow, heeb you nailed this one on the head. it is true to the fact that if somebody questions God or even bashes God that is the "cool" thing to do. and any other religion besides christianity is okay and acceptable, why i have no idea. and you were right when you said there has to be something with christianity if its so politically incorrect.

I second heeb and window's comments. Besides, the lyrics aren't even overtly Xian for crying out loud! I don't think the name Jesus or the word god is ever even said. If nothing else, enjoy it for the superb musicianship of the guys in Jars and get over your prejudices. You don't hear me whining about hearing the Beatles' "My Sweet Lord" because I don't agree with them religiously, do you? No, because it's a good song and to me a different view doesn't equal a lesser or unworthy one. That's my 2 cents.

great song & album, thanks... I never got the impression god was being marketed here, i think the lyrics are written very open to suggestion. IMO

I couldn't agree more, heeb. The American media's professed political correctness in accepting all religions is really just acceptance of everything except Christianity. Any song, speech, or script which uses the name of Jesus in a respectful and appropriate way is treated like religious fanaticism and is shunned. Thanks Bill, for being unlike American media and maintaining true balance!

Good post. I agree completely. I'm not a fan of religious music, but this is very nice.

It's a strange thing: When one sings about the devil, about buddha, or against Christianity, one is very, very interesting and cool, and OK with a lot of people... If one, on the other hand, would sing about God, one is suddenly very, very un-cool, and to be "gotten rid off". Strange, that in this day and age, one can merge all kinds of religions, and it's OK with everybody (just take a look in some new age shop). But whatever you do: DON'T mix in Christianity, cause that's un-cool! Well, if something is sooo much "out", there must be something to it...

What next? Creed? I can\'t stand musical evangelism. Don\'t wanna be saved. Been there, done that, quite over it.

god music. Get rid of it.
