Once we rode together
In a metal firecracker
You told me I was your queen
You told me I was your biker
You told me I was your everything
Once I was in your blood
And you were obsessed with me
You wanted to paint my picture
You wanted to undress me
You wanted to see me in your future
All I ask
Don't tell anybody the secrets
Don't tell anybody the secrets
I told you
All I ask
Don't tell anybody the secrets
Don't tell anybody the secrets
I told you

Once you held me so tight
I thought I'd lose my mind
You said I rocked your world
You said it was for all time
You said that I would always be your girl
We'd put on ZZ Top
And turn em up real loud
I used to think you were strong
I used to think you were proud
I used to think nothing could go wrong
All I ask
Don't tell anybody the secrets
Don't tell anybody the secrets
I told you
All I ask
Don't tell anybody the secrets
I told you

What's her vocal range?  About half an octave?
You either get or should I say like Lucinda or you don't. As a songwriter, she is amazing. Especially her lyrics. I first heard of her in 1993 when Mary Chapin Carpenter covered her "Passionate Kisses" and had a hit with it. A bigger hit than Lucinda. But when this Car Wheels lp came out on 1998 my local NPR station in WNC wore it out. Voted best lp of the year. I bought it and quickly became a huge fan, buying her whole catalog. Her voice is an acquired taste. I love the drawl. and she always has a lead guitarist in her band laying down some tasty ass leads. I love me some Lucinda and everything about her. Still going strong and live at 70, even after a stroke.

Some of the best from tough and sweet Lucinda. Thanks, again, RP.

With this one, she uncorked the best album of the 90s. Not just her best, the best. IMHO, of course. ;)

I can´t remember that this Album was in any list of the best albums of the 90´ies! In Rolling Stone and german Musikexpress they voted Radioheads "OK Computer" from 1997 to the best Album of the 90´ies. That makes sence!
What a joy it was to discover the full musical repertoire of this fabulously gifted singer/ songwriter, and how valuable it has been for me to dive into those sweet, deep currents regularly! I've seen her twice at The Boulder Theater; 20 years ago and a couple months ago, and she is still an American Treasure; A REAL FORCE OF NATURE!
Tough and sweet… yeah. She has such a distinctive drawl. I fell for her years ago.
metal firecrackers?

what about M 80s. those were like little dynamite sticks
Her Essence album may be her best.

Can ya play song or two from that?

We need to get her to tour with Kathleen Edwards.  I would go on the road for a few days to see them shows.
Bought it on vinyl thanks again to RP!
something about her annoys me and I can't quite pin it down, and it's hit and miss. I love one song hate the next. Not liking this one
Lucinda's passionate voice, and Steve Earle's strong guitar - what a potent combination!
Her lyrics are biting and cogent. She was hitting on all cylinders with "Car Wheels On A Gravel Road", and this is one of the best cuts from the disk. She continues to prove that she is one of the Country's finest songwriters. "We put on ZZTop and turned it up real loud......" Kewl.
With this one, she uncorked the best album of the 90s. Not just her best, the best. IMHO, of course. ;)
I heard Lucinda say in concert once that Metal Firecracker is what she called her tourbus. Looking forward to seeing her open for Neil Young this summer.
Some of the best from tough and sweet Lucinda. Thanks, again, RP.
