Building cage I can only study the blame
I can think of a word for myself but no name
Question darts throw me to the dogs of progress
But they run from what really matters

Raised on promises

To the furnace for shade to the dust for a drink
Logic's mad and shame doesn't care what you think
The ocean's dry, it's only a phantom that you fathom
But the flood comes from the desert

Raised on promises

Land of the known
Free of the brave
They sell us ourselves
The center has moved
And water bleeds from broken faces

Raised on promises

A little bit "The one I love" by R.E.M. in it?   "Fire"
grew up listening to Sam and this is a fantastic album!

Perhaps not the best but it sounds that choice was limited.
Were you allowed to listen to the renowned atheist Grieg?

The confusion of who sings in a given song is encapsulated in this comment. I have seen Mariannes Faithful live and listened to far too many recordings: to wit; this sounds nothing even remotely at all like her. I wonder if the problem is lousy speakers?

Thought this was a funny joke, and then I googled it.

Yet, what you heard was nothing of the kind.

I remember that flick. I liked it a lot, too - & still remember it well after 10 years or so (much more so than most of the rest of what I saw during that time). Ashley Judd was amazing in it - haven't seen anything from her subsequently that has the same spark to it. They used this song in the opening credits, which grabbed me immediately - since the album was a big fave of mine but I'd never heard it on the radio or anywhere else.

Seems like a small, quiet movie. Interesting that it had such a hold on you two...

Judd had a small but memorable part in a great movie, "Heat", released about two years later ('95). Michael Mann wrote, directed and produced it and it is ALL GO. I get the impression that his movies generally are non-stop like that. Extraordinary cast including Pacino and De Niro.

I even thought it was a part of Hey You by Pink Floyd. Must be because I normally PSD that song so quickly.

My volume was way down. Thought it was Blondie for a minute.
I thought Sam Phillips produced Elvis' records

Agreed. She's done some great stuff, but this ain't it.
very 80s minus the self-indulgent fun. eh.

Me too, from the opening notes!

Does anyone else hear the guitar from REM's "Welcome to the Occupation" in this? Is it just me?
Someone tell me that this is not the song this artist should be judged by. Come on... Sounds like an early eighties poop song with a bit of Quarterflash and Smithereens riff rip-off thrown in for ill measure.

"Ruby In Paradise" is one of my favorites from Victor Nunez. I don't think he has directed anything better since - but "Ulyees Gold" was ok.
Just the fact that Sam is on these airwaves says something positive about this station.

I like most of the other Phillips tracks you play. I don\'t care for this one too much however.
