Blue morning
Wrapped in strands of fist and bone
Curiosity Kitten
Doesn't have to mean you're on your own
You can look outside your window
He doesn't have to know
We can talk a while baby
We can take it nice and slow

All your life is such a shame
All your love is just a dream

Well are you happy where you're sleeping
Does he keep you safe and warm
Does he tell you when you're sorry
Does he tell you when you're wrong?
Well, I've been watching you for hours
It's been years since we were born
We were perfect when we started
I've been wondering where we've gone

All your life is such a shame
All your love is just a dream

Well I dreamt I saw you walkin'
Up a hillside in the snow
Casting shadows on the winter sky
As you stood there counting crows
One for sorrow
Two for joy
Three for girls and four for boys
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret never to be told

Well there's a bird that nests inside you
Sleeping underneath your skin
When you open up your wings to speak I wish you'd let me in.

All your life is such a shame
All your love is just a dream
Open up your eyes
You can see the flames of your wasted life
You should be ashamed

And you don't want to waste your life baby
You don't wanna waste your life now darlin'
You don't wanna waste your life baby
You don't wanna waste your life now darlin'
And you don't wanna waste your life now baby,
I said you don't wanna waste your life now darlin'
You don't wanna waste your life now baby
You don't wanna
You don't wanna waste your life now darlin'

Change

I said I will walk along these hillsides in the summer 'neath the sunshine,
I am feathered by the moonlight fallin' down on me,

I said I will walk along these hillsides in the summer 'neath the sunshine,
I am feathered by the moonlight

And also "counting crows" in the lyrics.
I like a lot of music.  A lot of different music.  I'm sure some will say it speaks to my lack of discernment or discrimination but I enjoy this song.  And I enjoyed the previous songs.
Bill and Rebecca, I can't thank you enough.  For including the PSD button for songs like this.
LEAVE ADAM ALONE! Just for mean things said here about Counting Crows, I'm moving all my 2s to 9s. That'll show you.

That response is 100% correct, and I have to remind myself of it from time to time with other songs. But not this one! I just wanted to chime in for those who actually like this song, because I do. I recognize that the vocals aren't great, but they still fundamentally work for me here. I'm glad this song is in the rotation, and I'm generally grateful for even the songs I don't like much.

This is a long-winded way of saying: thanks for making a good station, Bill!

One for sorrow, two for joy ... we can count magpies instead ...
Makes me appreciate my life

You can go back if you use jriver to stream rp in flac! You can also replay a whole group of songs, use any of the genre streams, and it sounds better than using a browser. I'm a big fan of RP and JRiver and this song is pretty good too.
If you're going to do the Eddie Vedder unintelligible slur, you better bring the music chops in every other aspect. Heck, even Eddie has had trouble with that later in his career. But this, man, this is just rough. At least slur on key, dude.
The only act on RP guaranteed to make me hit skip.  Like finger nails on a chalkboard.

Agreed . Great comment.
Aaron, reeeelax.  Lotta folks say lotta stuff.  And please don't 'splain it away (maybe it's even healthy, and a lotta folks blah blah) just speak your mind. You can talk about this with the next babe you chat up... The name caught my eye. A group of crows is called a murder, it's true, look it up. To blow your mind further, a group of owls is a parliament. So don't get mad when you are not informed enough to know.
If you want people to leave your party put this on.
Will work every time!
Love it, love it, love it. Memories of the 90's.  Perfect!

Alastair I thought this would lead to a whole stream of other suggestions.

I see nobody has taken your bait - RP listeners are far too sensible for silly comments {#Wink}
The worst song by the worst band on my birthday!
Bill, how could you?
How come we cannot go backwards in the playlist? I missed Cortez the Killer😩
Well I like it!

For some reason, this song always sounds thin to me....I do like Duritz's voice (somewhat)--I just start futzing with the EQ on this one every time I hear it.
Missing a bassline that is audible or something.
I can’t listen to this guy without thinking about mr. jones. It’s a bit like seeing bob Denver in another role besides gilligan

See you in court.
I managed to sneak into a 21 and over night club when I was about 17 and I remember this song was playing, so it will always be cool in my mind.

How can you even compare Thom Yorke to this tuneless drivel?   At least Thom Yorke's voice is transporting.  This is bland and stagnant.

This is hilarious! You do realize you are doing exactly what you are complaining about, right? You can't get high and mighty about not being high and mighty. Well, I guess you can, but it ends up being pretty funny!

sort of captures this post modernist existential angst we live in these days. quite appropriate to this song itself which is damn good. lotsa magpies and crows in here.

Welcome! Look for the connecting threads in the playlist, which are often very good. That usually redeems the clunkers (imo) that come every so often. I agree with you on this one too.

You know if we could generate electricity from the heat from the haters when Counting Crows comes on the world wouldn't have an unlimited source of clean power an lots of good music on the radio!
Seems like a lot of people hate Counting Crows. Seems like Bill doesn't care. I like Bill.

This band is IMO one of the few blights of mediocrity on RPs otherwise creative, exciting playlist. I would seriously consider doubling my annual donation in exchange for a full ban.
All the recent negative comments! ...I've been saying the same things since I first heard this band. Never liked them, and in particular the vocals.

Counting Crows. A Murder Of One. I get it.

Such a good band. I have to laugh at the people who need to critique the creations of others. They must be American Idol watching drones.

More Counting Crows would be good.
Don't care what you think, I like this.  Here's why:  I give a similar quiz to my nieces, all seven of 'em.

Well are you happy where you're sleeping?
Does he keep you safe and warm?
Does he tell you when you're sorry?
Does he tell you when you're wrong?
Ah.  Memories of college come flooding back.  Couldn't walk out of the dorm without hearing this album being played in someone's room somewhere.

I agree with all this, but seemingly this is a minority opinion. This band has always grated for me and time has not softened any of it.

I can't fault a band that elicits that reaction for me, since I'm one step away from total despair most of the time.  Oh - and I've discovered that I still have my voice, so singing isn't an excruciatingly-horrific experience anymore - at least, to my ears.

And I just love this song.

I don't like that, too.

And I don't bash everything from Dave Matthews, even though one seems to have to here on RP.

Having said that, I really dislike almost everything this band ever produced. The singer is an intolerable whiner.

one of my personal favs by these guys,

Like the music or not you have to wonder if anyone was able to pull down the ladies like Adam could...whipped threw the Friends cast in their prime. Monica Potter, and now Emmy Rossum.
Does Adam have a self important, hipster, tacky quality about him and probably thinks he is far deeper and important than he actually is? Sure, but the Crows have produced some very toe tappin' tunes and they are fine with me.
Ever walk by a Yankee Candle store unexpectedly? Some people love it, but the blast of artificial stink trying to mimic natural scents causes an immediate toxic reaction and headache for me.

true, but what a great songwriter, and what a great song!

You speak the truth toddbruner.

The 'it can't be cool if it's commercial' vibe is one of the only things I don't like about the RP comment board.
There are some artists whose imperfect voices make it difficult for some to recognize their musical genius. Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen are a couple of examples. I understand that. In the beginning I thought Adam was a whiney pop star. I came to realize he's a talented songwriter and stylist, and the band is pretty tight. These are not his best lyrics, but it's still a fun song.

The most annoying voice in music.
For the sole reason of the memory of sitting in a circle around the old-school cassette player in sixth grade, blasting this album, this gets my vote.
