Does anyone have this album?  Who was on slide guitar?

Guessing it was Derek Trucks, he has a credit on the album per AMG, but of course, they don't break it down by song.

I was thinking the song was a 7 and the slide took it to 9... at least on that listen.  Thanks Bill and Rebecca.

Oh yeah.............. thats Derek!!!!

I really like it because it's different.
Proof that a blues guitar can be as annoying as a jazz sax
Here comes the blues hour.. see ya later!
No ,sir dont like it!

Hey, it's the earthquake song!!!
Man, just what I needed - some greasy slide to ease me into Friday night.
"When the Levee Breaks" next?
Love this ditty -both versions! It always seems to play when its most appropriate about my own little (broken) world!
*bump*

The lyrics are a bit silly, but the song certainly has me bopping in my chair!

Great version of a swingin' tune, Bill!!

The original is good.  Kenny Wayne Shepard also does a mean version of this tune.

I like R.L

What a Negative Nelly.  I guess in Dylan's world the glass is always half empty.

 The politician's mantra, just saying.

Anyone know who played the guitars on this track?

I give this a one because I think it is just about the worst song on the RP playlist. I mean, it's " Cake," bad. Unlistenable.
{#Zip-lip}
There are 32 instances of the word "broken" in this song.  By the end, I was convinced that everything was indeed broken.

Hard to rate this one.  Song's just about a 10 for me but then an extra point by RLB covering it means....this goes to 11? Factor in that I have a strict policy stating I can't rate a cover version above 9 without a written order from the President, and that explains why there is smoke pouring out of my ears.  I'll leave it at a 9 for now unless I hear from the POTUS.

Wow! F...ing cool version! Bob has never grooved like this ;-).
Old R.L. gettin down to his own bad self. 9

Burnside's version doesn't have a lot of juice behind it, kinda subdued.  Better than Dylan, tho'.
I love the irony of an old bluesman doing Dylan.

Well, in fact there's a handy little button.
You'd also get some Humperdinck  {#Tongue-out}

When I first heard ''Oh Mercy,'' like a lot of critics I thought it sucked. Over time it's somehow gotten better and better. This song is a gem, as is ''Man in the Long Black Coat.'' First impressions are often wrong. Love this R.L. Burnside cover. Brilliant song, brilliant performer.

Great song, yes. But Dylan wrote it. It was on his excellent "Oh Mercy" CD back in the mid 90s. This version was done in 1999. Burnside was an old-time Mississippi Delta bluesman who found a new, younger audience during his last decade (thanks in great part to The Sopranos). He died shortly after surviving Katrina in 2005.
I would argue that Burnside's music is more Mississippi hill country blues than Delta blues. But I'm no expert... Either way, it's lovely to hear him on RP.

Funny how we're conditioned to assume that the gritty bluesman's version is the original and the white guy is doing the cover!

I think that i would disagree with your statement, but hey to each his/her own.

Cool, never heard this version. Big fan of Dylan's take so that helps. It's wonderful to hear this weathered voice testifyin'.

Good solid blues. The man singing sounds about a hundred years old. I have no idea if he is, he just sounds that way to me.

Will Toni Braxton's "Unbreak my Heart" be next? R.L. Burnside - Everything Is Broken Nick Lowe - Breaking Glass I shiver in anticipation.
