Great song and Album!
Tom made such great sing-along party-jam songs, didn't he? Such fun! So glad I saw him play in '85!
You know, I want to dislike TP's music -- it's really simple stuff -- but damn if he doesn't "get me" every time. Simple, yes, but rollicking blues stuff with catchy lyrics and guitar licks! Gotta give this an 8.
B4 anyone says it, yes, I know I can hit psd! But, it isn't T. Petty's birthday so, wonder what gives, with all the TP tunes the past few days? Bill? Care to pipe in?

Agree 1000%. Too much Tom Petty, too much Talking Heads. Everything else fantastic so it is what it is.
I compare this stuff to his early music, 70's and early 80's, and I find that there is no comparison. To me this isn't bubble gum, but elevator music for a fat orthodontist in his late 50's cruising on the Harley he just bought. Yawn.

I believe it was producer Rick Rubin who challenged Tom to do better than "You Rock Me". Reminds me of how Aerosmith's "Dude Looks Like A Lady" was originally "Crusin' with the Ladies" and their producer Desmond Child said that was just awful. They've got to do better (no one had really talked so bluntly to them before.) One of the band members sheepishly said "well, when we're joking around we say "dude looks like a lady." And Child was like "ok, now we're getting somewhere!"
