Reap the wild wind
Reap the wild wind

Reap the wild wind
Reap the wild wind

A finger points to show a scene ''(take my hand, take my hand)''
Another face where mine had been ''(take my hand, take my hand)''
Another footstep where I once walked ''(take my hand)''
Take it all

You take my hand and give me your friendship
I'll take my time and send you my slow reply
Give me an inch, and I'll make the best of it
Take all you want and leave all the rest to die

Reap the wild wind

A footprint haunts an empty floor ''(take my hand, take my hand)''
A fading coat that I once wore ''(take my hand, take my hand)''
Oh, a desolation where I once lived

I have seen in times gone by
I have felt
A different shadow on the wall
A stranglehold on a certain feeling

You take my hand and give me your friendship
I'll take my time and send you my slow reply
Give me an inch, and I'll make the best of it
Take all you want and leave all the rest to die

Reap the wild wind
Reap the wild wind

You take my hand and give me your friendship
I'll take my time and send you my slow reply
Give me an inch, and I'll make the best of it
Take all you want and leave all the rest to die

Reap the wild wind

I had to look to see if this was Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark

yeah, the same weirdly emotive voice over synth- but I liked a lot from them both at the time.

Triangle Towers, Weasel, Damian, Bob Here, Cepheus, Nici, Psychedelly, Twist & Shout, Root Boy!

This isn't far off from OMD's poppier stuff. Better singing but pretty mainstream lyrics. Still a great song if you're into the 80s.

nah, standard analong synths, and samplers. minimoog, Juno, and the Emulator.  This record was produced in 1982, the DX7 wasn't released until 1984

I love Midge Ure's voice on this cut

RIP to one of the GOATs. A long, slow, undeserved death for a Maryland institution.
Bonbon Ultravox

I was going to comment but I don't think this can be topped.

Of course not!  Cheese goes on top of fries, burgers, tacos, and more!

OMD forever!
Only on RP will Ultravox follow that old gem by Nilsson.  truly eclectic

My grandfather clock just chimed the hour, in exact time with the beat of this song.
Ha.  Crashed my car to this album back in the day.  I was a lucky boy ...  "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" was playing ...

80's gloy!!

Gloy (n). The triumph of style over substance, of technology over humanity, of cocaine.
The only Ultravox song I can stand post John Foxx is Vienna. it's like Genesis after Peteer Gabriel.
Another WHFS staple. Love it
Not heard this for a while. 80's  not my era but these guys made some awesome music. We saw them a couple of years ago the years haven't faded their power.
Always love this voice

The video on this! OMG. Because who doesn't love new wave as WW2 romancing the fighter pilot cosplay complete with vintage Spitfire & 80s club jackets?! Never having seen most of my fave 80s-bands' videos, being a college radio + LP-only kinda gal back then, they sure are media bounty of some wacky potpourri.
Hell F*** Yeah on that one! Not heard since 1984 or thereabouts. More early to mid 80s hidden gems, pretty please Mr./Mrs. B&R. Thanks in advance!
80's gloy!!
Go get 'm Midge!
Big fan of this band since seeing them at Lawrence Opera House many moons ago. For some songs they all would play synths, very cool.
One of the better offerings of the 80s. This was a staple on HFS for awhile too.
Not my favorite from this album. I LOVE VIENNA!! Could listen to it over and over. In fact, I did!
Oh ... yeah ... this ...
While we're at it, how about some Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark?
has an 80s familiarity, much like 'So in love' by O M in the Dark
Originally off the album "Quartet."  How about a little "Sleepwalk" next?
holy smokes   ...
Uber Bieber.
Being old enough to have the 60/70s music still , this was one of the few bands to make the 80s bearable excellent. 9

Saw them last year very good ( and vey bald Midge).

I went to high school and college in the 80s. It was great to hear this blast from the past. I was reading all the comments on this song, and an idea occurred to me: In order for a song to be identifiable from a given era, the current era must have it's own, different sound. This means that the 2000's era must have an identifiable sound, which further means, that when a new generation or decade has a different sound, they will look back on the 2000's and say, "that sounds so turn of the millenium - yuck!" So much of what makes music enjoyable is the creativity it holds - creativity in sound and lyric. I'm glad the 80's have some distinctive 'sounds'. Would that we all would be more creative to enjoy and produce more and varied enjoyable 'sounds'.

me too.

and i really enjoyed the rest of this comment. thank you.

Oh the memories!

yes wonderful structure, like the piano break
glad to hear on RP
A good band....back in the day...this is when they sold out...IMHO.
Vienna....now there is a great song by Ultravox.
Music can do different things to us people. This song just so happens to take me on a journey. Journey takes me many places too. Oh, back to this song.....I feel like I'm flying through the air (reaping the wild wind). Music doesn't always have to make a statement (political or otherwise) to be effective. This just feels good! Solid 8.

Ultra vox pop. Oy! It'll soon be over!

Always preferred the early, John Foxx, edition of Ultravox. It had much more of an edge to it. Anyone who can work "I was effectively anaesthetized" into a lyric has my respect.
Well, this brings memories, for sure! Neat!
I love cheese! You should have some everyday. A solid 8 for sure!!!
Did 'That Sound' quite well. i just can't get enough of 'this sound', even 20 years later. yep, i'm that cheesey.
world wide web...

Sorry, no crackers. But there seems to be plenty of whine here.
Oh my friggin' goodness. Ultravox actually did songs other than "Vienna" I can't believe it. (Hits stop button then presses play again). Still there. A non-Vienna-flavoured Ultravox track. Well I never.
Good times, good times. Hand me a cracker so I can enjoy the cheese.
Do-able. Did 'That Sound' quite well. 9. Thanks for the memories.
Really, really cheesy.
YES.

Platy, my friend, maybe one day I can educate you on the finer points of new wave 80s music. In the mean time, don't knock Oingo, Danny Elfman is now one of the guys who has a hand in the soundtrack/scoring of a ton of movies and television...
