always preferred her as a backup singer - she has worked with major talent and obviously has talent of her own. haven't found the best solo album perhaps
i think she's a major talent, both as a musician and a songwriter. her career is pretty amazing. however, i find her voice quite nasal, and that stands out a great bit in this song particularly. but maybe it is intentional, maybe adds more meaning to the delivery of the lyrics. not sure. but, again, i think she's super talented and i do like many of her songs.

I think its worth saying here that this song was chosen by Johnny Cash to cover on his American VI. If you listen to his version you will FEEL the gravity of those lyrics in a way that Sheryl's version, despite being the original, doesn't quite gather.

I actually like Sheryl Crow - both as a singer and as someone who, for a short time, dated the fallen cycling icon Lance Armstrong. The latter connection did not end well for her but I think she dodged a bullet on that one and she was better off without him. Some have mentioned her whining voice - I don't agree - I liked her young, sassy and foxy voice with a hint of Country twang back in the late 90's and yes, I also liked one of her contemporaries - Alanis Morissette. Neither are particularly liked on RP and neither really made it 'big' in the following decades,but that is OK. it's only music after all and they still made their mark - albeit a short one.

Following up "Porcupine Tree's — Last Chance To Evacuate Planet Earth Before It Is Recycled" which samples the cult leader from Heaven's Gate, with Redemption Day that has "Heavens Gate" prominently in the refrain. Masterful transition, guys.
Outstanding! 
Actually thought this was a very good song and performance. Way different than her newer stuff. Didn't find it whiney at all.

To be diplomatic one day on a long drive, I put my wife's Sheryl Crow CD on . I was hating on it, but felt I had to suffer through it since I assumed she liked it. She was really good during this period, and has continued to be so. Has she decided to retire from music and be a mom? Huffington Post syas she's planning a new release in September that will be countrified. Not far from most of her stuff anyway, IMO.

To be diplomatic one day on a long drive, I put my wife's Sheryl Crow CD on . I was hating on it, but felt I had to suffer through it since I assumed she liked it. After about 4 songs she turns to me and says "turn this crap off" ..we laughed our asses off after I told her I could barley stand it...there you go..story of the day

There are actually more male artists who's voices I have negative opinions about than females. And I also think Cheryl's voice is plenty strong - in the case of this song too strong.

While I don't loathe Cheryl Crow, I don't really like her either. Not sure what it is about her songs, but I just can barely stand to listen to them. I know that there are a lot of people out there who love her, so I don't want to begrudge them hearing her music here, but it does give me a 3 minute brake where I can go to the bathroom and not worry about missing something good.

She sings like Lucinda William's kid sister. 
Clearly it's just me, but her voice is so tinny and thin to me. I just don't get her at all.

There was a brief period in my life when I had a decent cd player in my car, but I hadn't yet discovered used cd's . (Also, I was broke.) I would buy a cd after very careful deliberation and then play.it.to.death. Now, when I hear something from one of those 6 or 7 cds, I'm instantly transported back to that time, with all the moods and hassles I was dealing with flooding back.
RP has played songs from three of those tonight: Odelay, The Colour and the Shape, and this. I was listening to this very song when I made a major decision in my life, one that's affected nearly everything since. (It was a good decision.) I wouldn't take back the late 90's for anything, but I would never want to live through them again!

i watched Erin Brockovich this weekend (if that's how you spell her last name)...crow's music actually does a lot for that movie. i'm not a big julia roberts fan.
I see that she is a founding member of the Recording Artists' Coalition, which supports the rate hikes, but does that mean she herself supports it? I would imagine most artists would be against the hikes.

Never liked her (except when she sang "Leaving Las Vegas" and "All I Wanna Do", and the duet "Blue" with Zucchero, oh yea), can't understand why she has won even the first Grammy (unless for one of those songs), just can't stand that high-pitched whinny voice (except in those three songs and maybe that Steve McQueen song.
