Well I've heard enough

And I've seen enough

And I know enough to know...

I know a good thing when I see it

And it's a bad thing to let go.

Well I've been around

I've been up and down

Until I bent out of control.

With your world all in motion,

'gotta put a ball

And a chain on your soul.

All those angels running,

Picking up the pieces,

Putting back together

Hearts broke long ago.

I know a good thing when I see it,

And it's a bad thing to let go

There will always be lovers

With borders of their own,

And you may charge across

In a golden chariot,

But you will never be at home

'Cause I had dreams

Like distant thunder;

I had hope like a prayer unheard.

And this nothing less than perfect

In a less than perfect world.

All those angels running,

Picking up the pieces,

Putting back together

Hearts broke long ago.

I know a good thing when I see it,

And it's a bad thing to let go.

A teensy weensy bit of channeling Colvin's 'Steady On' ?

Saw Patty at a great little byob venue in Londonderry NH, called Tupelo Hall, last spring. She's a superb singer-songwriter, and maybe a better guitarist. Shawn Colvin played at the same place a few weeks later. Both were very good solo acts, but Larkin was better.

Former New Englander here.  Jealous. Also Check out Carolyn Currie, Cumberland, ME.

Please listen "between the lyrics" the song is profound poetry from a very difficult time in the composers life.  Patty Larkin has a wonderful and distintive songbook.  Try "Metal Drums" about the Woburn, MA haz waste debacle. It was made into a film starring John Travolta. Titled "A Civil Action".
This is why I love Radio Paradise. I've listened to a lot of music over the years, in all genres. But I have to say Patty Larkin's name doesn't ring a bell with me. A nice song for a Monday morning.
Thinking Matt Nathanson must have had this in the back of his head when he wrote "I Saw"
"Not" Patty Griffin.
"And this is nothing less than perfect
In a less than perfect world."

Dogs have sadly changed, but this talent hasn't. Stick by it.

Hyperbole is rarely useful in comments, amigo.

That seems odd - why Bill?

I agree.  Melissa's first few albums were so amazing and powerful - don't know about her last couple.  I would fully support someone uploading some ME.

You want Melissa here, then upload her.

More Patty Larkin, please. If you ever get a chance to see her live, don't miss it. She's an incredible guitarist (which you don't hear on this song, particularly), awesome songwriter, and definitely has "it"—that rare stage charisma...

{#Yes}

This starts a bit like Steady On by Shawn Colvin

I suppose with the zillions of songs and so few notes, it's bound to happen.

I know I've heard this song done by someone else (not Tom Petty) and I just can't place it.  For some reason I think it is from a Christmas cd.  Ring a bell?
I want to hear Tom Petty's cover of this.

An Enema for the Enigma to release his enamine while the Animosity Endures.
It's " enema " , and bickering does no good.
Always great to catch Patty here on RP. This is pretty laid-back, she can rock it too. With lyrics far better than those grubby indie bands that superfido prefers.

Looking at your ratings, we are polar opposites. You do need a good enima.

That would be cool to see. I have never seen a good women guitarist before. Is there such a thing?

To help influence your thoughts, I respectfully submit some of Teri Anne Wilson's work with "Sister Guitar Band"? (click here)

You really don't need to stretch the forum out this way...it sucks for everyone else.

You haven't seen Susan Tedeschi or Bonnie Raitt, then. Raitt is HIGHLY regarded as an incredible slide guitarist. What a misogynistic remark! I love this.

I like the song... she does it well. But right now, I just can't go there.
This song is also sung by the fantastic Dutch singer Ilse DeLange. I think Ilses version is better..
She's got a coffee voice ... dark, smooth and yummy The lyrics are a bit ... unfortunate.
not diggin this set of songs.

She's singing "our" story.. resonates
Something about this really reminds me of Shawn Colvin's "Steady On". Can't put my finger on it.

Yeah, it facilitates my office sleep. Nothing remarkable about this...

Wish I could have been. Beautiful stuff.
My favorite song from one of my favorite artists!!!!
Really nice to hear Patty here.

Dar and Patty, back to back. Brings back memories of when I first saw Patty live - Dar was her opening act.
sounds a lot like Tom Petty\'s \"Freefallin\" IMHO. nice though, great voice.
Love her voice.
Beautiful song. I\'m surprised there aren\'t more comments here.
Till this, I\'d actually heard more of Patty Larkin than by her, and I\'m pleased for that to change. This is really lovely.
Great song, but just average for Patty. Both this (Angels Running) and Tango are excellent! :) oh yea, she's a great guitarist and great in concert!
