There's a glimmer of morning just over the tree line
The sky full of starlings scatter at rain sign
I don't know what the day will bring
Assuming it does come
I just know that I need you
Forever and then some

I was living in a world
Where people pawned their souls
For the smallest change
So it's by heart I know
A little hope is a precious thing

In the thick of night
It'll hold up in the light
Put love above everything else
And the rest will take care of itself

I have known darkness jet black as the raven
You just might be the closest I will ever get to heaven
But everybody needs forgiveness
Even those that don't deserve it
Everybody needs salvation
Even if they don't believe a word

I was living in a world where people shape truth
Just as bold as day
Now when I have you
I won't throw your trust away

And in the thick of night
It'll hold up in the light
Put love above everything else
And the rest will take care of itself

The rest will take care of itself,
The rest will take care of itself
Come on, come on
Come on

Every dream has a blind side,
A trap door that's tripped by doubt
I've tried to see reason
But I couldn't quite make it out

I was living in a world
Where every mask I wore
Fell on it's face
I will masquerade no more
Love don't need no hiding place

And n the thick of night
It'll hold up in the light
Put love above everything else
And the rest will take care of itself

The rest will take care of itself,
The rest will take care of itself

The rest will take care of itself,
The rest will take care of itself

Come on, come on
Come on

Thankful that he came through my town many times in my wild and crazy youth. His live shows always left you sweaty and hoarse and rubber-legged. He left it all on the stage every single time. Love this guy.

i'm having a similar reaction.  the lyrics are quite good.  not excited about his voice nor the music.

Reminds me of the chorus from Chrissie Hynde's Dark Sunglasses.
Nice!

Describing one human being as being a "poor man's" version of another, does a terrible disservice to everyone involved.

Both Mr. Wilder and Mr. Hiatt have a place in the collective musical pantheon.

I can see placing Webb and John Hiatt together in the same context.  It's the "poor man's" part where you completely lose me.

Since when did being Buffet become a bad thing? Just saying.....

First time to hear this.   Really liking it.  Thanks, RP!

A man who believes that you are "Never quite bald, never quite wall-to-wall"...
A guy who knows every thrift shop and plate lunch joint in town...
A man who has dedicated himself to both kinds of music: Rock and Roll.

A man with a credo:  Work hard, rock hard, eat hard, sleep hard, grow big, wear glasses if you need 'em!

One of my favorite artists to work with live, still have the T-shirt with the WW Credo on the back! This album rocks!

8→9 !!  There' something especially enjoyable about this tune.  Long Live RP!!
Put love above everything else, and the rest ... will take care of itself.

Good advice, at all times, in all circumstances, no matter what your denomination.

I just kicked this off 7 to an 8. Couple of hooks in there that stop me in my tracks every time.

Take heart, something in the prog/alternative realm that you seem to love is coming.  Maybe folks who like the Americana won't whine when they hear one of your faves.

No promises.

There is a intolerant brand of aggressive atheism intent on driving religion out.

Defensive much?  You misinterpret my comment.

I dig that too....
I ran across Webb years ago on an old USA Network show called "Night Flight".  Interesting guy and I always liked his music.  I wish he had more success in that regard.
I think I've heard it before. It didn't register. I like it more. Give it a 7 for a thoughtful tune.
I like it too!

Never heard before and I like it, thanks Bill.

No religion there, just kind thoughts.

Slightly?!?!?  I find myself giving more and more low song ratings, and the majority seem to be these twangy, hick sounding, pop songs like this one.  Uggggghhh.

Web rocks out - saw him perform live back in the '80s -

You should give an entire album a spin or two.
What is wrong with ya? The song is alright!  Like ti or leave it. {#Music}
 Fuck ya!

No. thanks.
Is it just me, or has RP gone slightly more country these days?
Great Album - Nice guy. Cool cover of "Too Much to Dream"
Well the face doesn't match the voice  {#Lol}

I was expecting a brawny guy {#Lol}
Nice and different song
No wonder it sounds good what with the likes of Al Kooper and Sonny Landreth backing.
Hadn't heard this band before. Now they are my current favourites. Thanks Bill.
Nice, neat rock n roll directed straight at the pleasure center of your brain. Not unlike Marshall Crenshaw IMO. Wilder's lyrics sound a little deeper, while Crenshaw gets the most out of a simple turn of a phrase.
good voice, kinda neat little tune and that is an odd photo of the man

"Daddy bought her a baby blue Duster….."
Oh man, Webb.... first heard him on It Came From Nashville back in the mid eighties. One of rocks truly weird. I paraphrase but I believe his explanation of his musical tastes is 'I have one foot in country and one foot in rock and roll, and since I wear size 13 I'm covering a lot of ground'. Do check him out, this track is honestly one of his weaker moments, almost album filler, but even this has magic.

Looks like Webb is back on the RP playlist after an 11 year absence.  And that's good.

I don't know if he's released anything new for a while, but I did see him live a couple years ago, acoustic with a second guitar player.
Who remembers "Human Cannonball"?

"Cowpunk" - Proves that Radio Paradise is truly eclectic.

Beautiful
Hell yeah Webb rocks - love him and saw him live back in the '80s.

Great to here this.
Webb Wilder rocks! Complaints about "country" or any other genre shouldn't be allowed in discussions of Electic Radio. Different styles are what makes it "eclectic". Duhhhrrrrrrrrr.
NICE SONG.....GOOD VOICE......Who is this? not familiar with the artist. play more, please <-o<
Anemic. I\'m sure he has better stuff than this. :(
This song really plods along. I have nothing against country... I like Grim-country a la Johnny Cash but this is horrible.

I won't lower myself to respond in the vein of this criticism - Webb Wilder is a solid songwriter who can play great rock 'n' roll and country-tinged music. Stop worrying about labels and listen to a fine American musician ply his craft. Webb rocks and can sing ballads as well. I salute Radio Paradise for recognizing one of his very many excellent tunes. And like the one of the previous posters wrote - his sense of humor is superb. - Riff
Acres of Suede is the only CD I have by this guy and a I like it a lot. He has a great sense of humor. Frednic

I know I am in the minority, but a little more country would be nice, like Willie and Waylon and the boys.....
a nice lyric
blech. I thought for a second that RP had gone off the air and some country station had taken over!
I dig Webb. My favorite is \"Tough It Out\". It really rocks!
A little too \"Ye-haw\" for me. Is their other stuff a little more rockin\'?

I am from Nashville. I recently saw him hosting a show on the local public TV station. Can't remember what the show was about, but it was great to see him, at least. I just wish that it was on a stage with a guitar.

Ahh Webb! Truly, the \"Last of the Full Grown Men\"! More!
Definitely more roots rock than country. Bill, how about something off \"Hybrid Vigor\".
I saw \"Human Cannonball\" live. The best. Webb is great.
Always room for more Webb, one of the best of the \"roots rock/cowpunk\" field hands!
Webb Wilder is great... I first encountered him about ten years ago when he opened for The Georgia Satellites at a scungy bar in Edmonton. He absolutely blew them away! "Meet Your New Landlord" is an awesome tune... :D
