Consecrate your soul
Or there's gonna be hell to pay
You've got them where they live
Come the Judgement Day

Father, forgive our sins
Mother, forgive us too
Forgive but don't forget
They never meant to hurt you

She's doing the widow walk
Since her ship went down
Aw you have seen her with a pretty boy
On the country side of town

Her captain is lost at sea
Her ship is forgotten too
Aw she'd admit she'd been singing
The hellfire brimstone blues

Should never have tried to rock
Should never have tried to roll
Aw but damn I don't regret

Michelle Shocked singing "Father, forgive us" is a delicious irony. You better hope He does, honey, because the club owners may not.
Photo is a blatant ripoff of Minnie Pearl.  Shame on you!
Good to hear this morning!! I'm gonna have to dig this one out again. I love the whole album.

{#Bananajam}Always happy to hear Michelle Shocked! This song is so much fun!
Love this whole album.
Michelle Shockeds version of the blues just doesnt speak to me at all. Sorry. 3.
uhhh.. unenjoyable stretch of "blues" covers....... boring

I never heard this on RP before (5 years since it was last played?)... great album. This song has some little quiet noodling at the start that makes you turn up the volume, then the drums kick in and blast out the windows.
Arkansas Traveler is my favourite Shocked album with outstanding collaboration from the likes of Taj Mahal, Levon Helm, Alison Krauss etc. Well worth checking it out.

Loved the cover art when it came out. This album doesn't have the impact of Short Sharp Shocked but is still quite good nonetheless.
It doesn't have the same impact in a debut LP sense, but overall I think this album is more impressive by far. Her swan song in a way, at least for that phase of her career.

That's because Gilbert and Sullivan didn't write the lyrics/melody this time.........
I was waiting to hear "Harper Valley PTA"........ Catchy tho.

Haven't heard it before. She's doing the widow walk.
